I was thinking 6 cylinder.

You were thinking of yourself ? 😕

Triumph 2000 or 2500 engine maybe

3 pages in and I can't believe nobody has suggested the tried and tested* homebrew conversion kit!

Vauxhall Omega 2.5 V6 along with it's automatic box, failing that stick an R28 manual box on the back

2.25ltr petrol Land Rover engine would probably see a performance increase in the traffic light GP.

Rear axle and spoke capacity would be my first thoughts. GM180 box on a 1.8 OHC 4 pot and a Weber carbytooter?

Sacrifice a 1.8 Carlton? 🤠

(Exits stage left with hat cocked at a jaunty angle and heads for bar.)

That’s exactly what I would suggest, still easy to find and I remember seeing an old Bristol 403 with one of these engines fitted some years ago and and looked and sounded right….

I would guess the BMW is lighter, but don't know for sure. It took 4 good men to carry a Jag engine out of my kitchen where I had built it over the winter.

That third guy is Rodney from Only Fools? (Nicholas Lyndhurst)

As it happens I’ve got one of those kicking around needing a light rebuild - ran fine when I took it out but used about a gallon of oil per 500 miles and needed the throttle tickling to keep the oil light out!

Mercedes?

It’s probably easiest just to buy it and see what fits?

How much room do you have width wise? Rover V8? Plenty of them knocking around, and not expensive.

Was it a burial or cremation?

1800 B series is probably the easiest and cheapest and most boring option, cheaper than a Pinto, and maybe a bit lighter than the Triumph.

A friend of mine fitted one in his Morris 10 with the O/D gearbox and axle from an MGB, keeps up with traffic nicely. Here's a 6 minute YouTube video where he explains a few of the cars features. He also has a similar style split screen Moggy with a 4ltr Rover engine and gearbox.

Malcs Morris 10
