The Oddest Swaps/Trades for Shite?

As you do, I was idly looking at some of the tat around my house and thinking " I rarely play that guitar these days...I should sell it and put the $$$ towards a new toy" (ie. vehicle).

Whether I get round to doing it or not, I followed that particular train of thought for a little longer until I began to wonder...what's the stragest thing you've swapped or traded for a car?

So...what was it? Do tell...

Only another car... but I did do a straight swap from a '86 Micra 1.0 to an '88 Sierra 2.8 ghia 4x4 estate once ;D

150 12" singles for a Granada 2.8 ghia

HA viva van (no mot) for a horse box, promptly sold the horse box for scrap and made a profit

Not a swap, but a pleasant surprise. When I had the Corolla, I wanted a 4AGE engine, which my mate had. He said I could have a 'tuned' one for 250 quid. Cool! said I. When I went to get it, he meant I could have the whole taxed/MOT'd MR2 for 250 quid. It was fairly rotten, but on top it looked great and had Koni suspension.

In 2004 I swopped a £1 coin for a Talbot Horizon with mot. 1st Ebay purchase and I was the only bidder on a £1 start no reserve car  Cant find one like that again though

About 9 years ago my next door but one neighbour had an A reg Nova saloon with 3 weeks T&T left on it, (he'd just bought a 306) and my montego had done another headgasket so I'd got no wheels for a week or so, I asked him what he'd take for the nova and he said;

"4 cans of guiness and a big bag of doritos!

One trip to the spar shop and £4.22 later the nova was mine

weighed it in 10 days later for forty quid and had a few cans myself!

The car was my 1964 Morris Oxford, 4388DG. Mine with 7 Months MOT and a Month's tax (in 1987, so not free) in exchange for roughly 22 Hours worth of labour on a Rover SD1 2600.

My Fiat 127 "cost" me a day spent putting up wallpaper for a friend of a friend. I'm pure shit at putting up wallpaper though, quite apt given the state of the bloody Fiat. :(

A Rover 111GSi with 9 months test for a pint of Stella.

It had a blown Headgasket - surprise surprise, but I ran it for 6 months by driving like a granny and carrying a couple of gallons of water in the boot. It got so bad, having frozen solid a couple of times in the winter with a cracked block as well, but still ran.. Sold to a lad down the road for the alloys and trim for £100

lol, you did well... I paid £10 for an Mot'd horizon LX in 1993! oh, forgot to mention, I'd been given the micra in my previous post for nothing the day before on the grounds I removed the leaky non running eyesore straight away.

I once swapped a Pug 309 with 6 weeks MOT for a valet on SWMBO's Zafira. I was happy with the swap as it was about dead.

6 years ago I was given a J plate Sierra estate. I gave it away to a family with needs. Last week I got it given back to me, with a K plate Sierra hatch, and an R plate Vectra. I am donating the Sierra hatch and the Vectra to the local bodyshop training college based at the Deaf School. I am giving the donator my AX (once I put an engine in it) The Sierra estate has a sentimental attachment for me.

So I swapped an AX for 2 Sierras and a Vectra I guess. (None of which are legal)

swapped an air rifle for a 67 Hillman Minx 8) it was MOT'd and taxed....just

Veering slightly off topic, years ago on the local radio swapshop feature, there was a request to swap two ferrets for a concrete coal bunker.

Got a Mk1 Renner 5, a camcorder and little cash for a Mk3 Capri. The bloke who had the 5 was an absolute nut case of a fella, took eccentricity and oddness to a whole new level but was really nice.

A rotten Micra, 24 cans of lager and a some Frankie on DVD for a Corsa. Obviously I haven't watched the Frankie.

Got offered a Vectra and a date for a car I had on eBay. Requested pictures, results weren't to my liking and then I remembered I was married

Was it the Vectra or the bird that was not to your liking?

Two lockups full of (now-unobtainium or not cheap) Dyane spares for a very dead Volvo 240.

How long ago was that chief? Mig seems to be slipping badly these days, the amount of 'txt tlkrs' flooding the place is unreal.

Let's put it this way: I have fairly high standards when it comes to the fairer sex and virtually none at all when it comes to cars.

I was once told I could have a nice MK1 cav 1300 in kermit green in exchange for getting an old X reg Holda Civic running. The owner had tried everything and was at his wits end. Stuck a charged battery on and it started first time. Removed battery and took away the Cav. 5 mins work max.

I couldn't face telling him all it needed was a good battery so I told him id adjusted the trumpet valves or something. He thought I was a mechanical God!

It's quite old, only rediscovered it today, it's a gem! There doesn't seem to be anyone on migweb at all.

One november with winter approaching and my daily transport being a 1500 Spitfire I swapped a S,B,E R/S crusty for a G plate 1.6 GL Camelsear with 3 months tax/6 months mot. Which some scrote attempted to steal on Christmas day using the old 'bend top of door/glass over knee' method. Bent it back (without breaking glass!) and drove it till tax expired-ish. Top motor - about the only thing that worked was the PAS, which still made it more reliable than the Spitfire.

Mind you, it was a top sandwich from Sophies in Electric Avenue (real name)

Can someone copy it onto here? I'm intrigued but dont feel inclined to register!

That's truly the ****tiest offer I've ever had on a car! Give me 300 quid for a 1500 quid car, and ****ty set of knackered alloys worth 50 quid that I have to spend days repairing to make perhaps 100 quid on them? I think I'll pass.

do you still have the r5 turbo? ill giv you 300 and a set black 16'' momo sport alloys in bad condition. if refurbed theyd be worth 600 or more so i think if ur not a lazy man like me youll have a good deal.

I swapped my Golf Driver for an Ikea computer cabinet (in Beech with slidey keyboard drawer and doors), a matching corner cabinet, and a tumble dryer.

Had a friend with a Triumph 2.5 Pi automatic with a dodgy gearbox. He ended up swapping a MK 1 Transit with the local scrapyard for all the parts needed to do a manual conversion on the Pi.

We started off at 10am removing the parts from the doner 2500 S, it had just rained and the yard was very muddy. We had it all finished (apart from wiring up the overdrive) by 3. Unfortunately it was 3am the following morning, 17 hours.

A guy I went to college with years ago turned up one day in a totally rank Mk3 'Tina. Told me over a lunchtime pie he'd given the princely sum of 20 Embassy Regal for it. Said he'd never paid more than £50 for a motor, and once got an HB Viva for a plate of soup.

My first swap was my beige 1980 Fiat 126 in exchange for a red 1982 Talbot Samba 1.1 LS in around 1991, the Samba got nicked, but it turned up less than 1/4 of a mile away, but due to it having the nuts reved off of it by the thieves, the engine was on its last legs, so, I got a 1984 Citroen LNA II (on an A-plate, my first prefix number plated car) to donate its mechanicals... I`ve no idea why I chose that now, in retrospect it was in better condition than the Samba, maybe I was bored, but I regretted it due to me not quite understanding French engineers logic...

I later swapped the same Samba for a Vauxhall 3.3 auto Ventora II (which could only keep its gearbox fluid inside its box for about 10 minutes).

I was also given an orange 1972 Ford Escort 1100L 2 door free around the same time by a friends grandad who`d had it from nearly new. I painted it light blue with dark blue Mexico stripes, cut & shaped the front bumper into 1/4 bumpers & removed the rear bumber (but retained the 12" steels!?), then one day I had a big bust up with my bird at the time, went out with the hump & deliberately rolled it on a big mound of earth.... which is one of my biggest automotive regrets in retrospect...
