Anybody know the owner of this Porsche?

Spotted this with an abandoned vehicle notice on it today (near Worthing) it looks a well cared for car its still.got a shine to it - I'm guessing the owner may be in hospital or something has happened to them. Would be a crying shame for the council to frag it unbeknown to them or their family

If you’re local is it worth knocking a couple of doors and asking if they know the neighbour who owns it? If it’s someone who lives alone then it could be a genuine welfare issue.

If you’re lucky* you’ll get people posting on the local FB group warning people there’s a strange man going round trying to nick classic cars 😅

I'll be down there again next week, I'll have a look if any house looks likely.

You could try Heritage Parts in Shoreham on Sea. Ask for Andy Gregory, he deals with their Porsche stuff but also runs a facebook group called Sussex Transaxle Get Together for front engined/watercooled Porsches. He might just recognise it if it's local.

I cant seem to post the link for some reason.

Mot expired June last year, tax ran out at the end of December. I expect the owner is either out of the country, or deceased.

Could just have suffered something catastrophic like engine failure and that’s why it’s sat there.

But it's still has value even as scrap, why abandon it?

I know but one way or another unless it gets paid/shifted/whatever it’s getting baled.

Maybe an email or call to the contact details on there, indicating that the owner is being tracked down and could they please not frag this vehicle quite yet might well give it a stay of execution for at least a while.  I believe I read a while back that as soon as there is any communication in relation to an "abandoned" vehicle, they put a hold on any enforcement work.

The fact that it's been without MOT or Tax for so long does not bode well.  This would be a prime candidate for "recovering" somewhere safe until the owner's circumstances are known.

Have sent them an email outlining my concerns and asking if they have carried out a welfare check on the owner with it not being the typical abandoned vehicle.

I think I may try 111 if I don't hear back

I once saw an air cooled Beetle in this situation, made enquiries, then recovered it home leaving contact details.

The owner had been unwell and was relieved that the car was safe - I couldn't afford to buy it when they decided they couldn't keep it, but gave me something for rescuing it.

I'd get an A-frame and stick the back end on it, and just get it moved elsewhere if I could.

Just to bring this up to date.

Emailed the council oh no we wouldnt have anything to do with a welfare check you need to speak to the police.

Been down again and looked round the area, there's no obviously unloved houses it might belong to if someone is in hospital.

Contacted police via non emergency report form outlining my concerns and asking them to do a welfare check.

Email back today, just contact the abandoned vehicles at the council.

Emailed back bluntly stating the abandoned vehicles team don't do welfare checks and they said to contact the police to ask for one to be done.

If anybody on here works for Adur Police I can give the street address and the report numbers I have if it would wake up someone to check on the owner.

Could you perhaps contact the DVLA and explain and they may give you the owners address, or contact police on your behalf to do a welfare check.

DVLA don't give out addresses any more due to GDPR issues.

I do believe they act as the middleman though if you contact them and tell them that an abandoned Porsche is blocking your driveway and you need them to notify the owner that you'll be towing it in 48 hours if not moved...

I think @RichardK's idea is a good second bet if the above doesn't work. Ultimately the Porsche is going to be bailed if action isn't taken soon.

I've just contacted Stuttgart South who hold regular transaxle meets to see if they know the car.

I probably also know some people I went to school with in Sussex police, will drop them a message too.

Lad at Stuttgart South has replied already and is circulating it on their WhatsApp groups and a few local clubs that he's in.

Is it still there then? I am genuinely astounded.

Complete lack of interest from the police

Thank you for contacting Sussex Police, I note your concerns and have read your previous report, although I agree that the circumstances are strange there is not enough to suggest that someone has come to harm for us to conduct a welfare check.

Thanks for trying I think they are the best bet now. I'm very disappointed that the police can't even be bothered to try and make contact with the owner.
