MG only in plastic badge on the boot - hardly exudes sportiness does it, at least they attempted that with the Maestro's/Montego's/ZR's etc. There's a smaller car as well, or a larger saloon if that's the hatchback.

Some pics in this thread.

Don't panic. The ever-on-the-ball ARonline.com has already scooped it. They're on test in the North West and built in Brum too apparently!Edit - and it'll be launched at MG Live! in a couple of week's time.

I was sat behind it driving into Leyland this morning. TBH from behind I thought it was a newish Mondaeo untill we stopped in traffic at the lights then I clocked the badge.

Autoshite....Your number 6 choice for the latest news & gossip....

all got the same plate too :?

Ah, that's interesting actually. Aren't those Warwickshire plates? Rover prototypes for many decades have had Warks plates on 'em.Sorry FT - it's still a great spot! Yours has a badge on it and everything.Sadly, I'm going to say Shit at this stage because it looks like a nasty cross between a Mondeo, a Megane and Halfords.

I wish our communist freedom-loving overlords the best of luck with their Modern Gentleman

I actually quite like it, it looks nicely proportioned and lacking in grotesque overblown features which is always a plus for a new car.

Interesting, it will be nice to track what progress, if any, this car makes in the UK market. Great spot, I had no idea they were being trialled. I think it looks pretty good.

Nice one :)I think it would look a lot better, especially at the front, if it sat a hell of a lot lower, and was in, say, red, or BRG.It looks pretty anonymous imo, but I'll wait till I see one in the flesh, whenever that will be!

The front looks very Proton-esque. Which is ironic considering Rovers were the car of choice for Derby and Joan....

So it's built in Longbridge then?In which case I hope it's a success, those fellas there could do with a bit of success.

At first glance it looked like a BMW 5 series

Yes! The back end certainly does. I was trying to think what it reminded me of. Our Chinese comrades are notorius for immitating western car designs. And yes, if it gets a few Longbridge factory workers back into work, then I hope it is a sucess.

I likey. I hope it has a few little neat touches which say "I'm an MG" to set it apart from the rest, but I can understand them designing a car which will sell decent numbers rather than only to an enthusiast.Sadly, whilst the nation in general sits there and goes "I want to buy British", they then vote with their wallets by buying something generic. So perhaps MG is on the right path by making something generic, you've then got the (misguided) feeling of patrioticness coupled with far-eastern value. And yeah I read it is to be built in Longbridge but it's no longer a British company, in the same way I'd not consider a Civic or Primera to be British. I hope it has some over-fussy leather stiching, wood trim and slightly bizarre switchgear placement. In the nicest way possible, that says "MG" to me.
