Brighton Spots - 2014 OMG

I can't find my old spotted thread, must've gone in the server change.... Anyway, I finally went out and got some spots today - enjoy!

Nicely shite old scrote, parked over the road from me.... this is a sneaky photo out the window so my neighbours don't think i'm a total loon. As you know i'm no fan of post MK2 Escorts, but these three door estates do like quite smart I guess...

DSCF1881.jpg

Horrid Capri in the Asda carpark...

DSCF1882.jpg

Acadiane round the corner from me, shame about the graff...and the colour

DSCF1891.jpg

Not sure if this is a Haflinger or a Pinzgauer...it's pretty damn badass though

DSCF1893.jpg

The amount of stick-on tat on this Viva is amazing, and the steering lock is a big fuck-off chain round the wheel. Methinks an old boy owns this one...

DSCF1894.jpg

DSCF1895.jpg

(bonus bike-shite too)

Better shot of this coach (see streetview thread), now parked outside the abbatoir...nice!

DSCF1896.jpg

CRX

DSCF1897.jpg

This Ascona is a 4-door, lowered with nice alloys and it sounds very fast. Didn't know it lived here so this is a lucky spot.

DSCF1898.jpg

I'm sorry, is there a car here? Oh it's a Saab! Sorry, I got blinded by the huge pile of BLAND

DSCF1899.jpg

That's more like it! Lucky spot, this stopped just in front of me. Classic use of the zoom function to avoid the gaze of moody owner.

DSCF1900.jpg

By this point my feet hurt and i wanted to go home, so i didn't take a side-on shot of this lovely old tranny, but trust me, it's really, really shite

DSCF1901.jpg

rear shot of the Carlton I spotted previously. Think garycox also snapped this little honey. I really, really like this

DSCF1902.jpg

Not sure what the deal with this is, 'mild rat' maybe? Looks like a later one with chrome bumpers retro-fitted, a mod that I wholeheartedly approve of

DSCF1903.jpg

DSCF1904.jpg

Another shot of the Vogue I papped during the OMG SNOW CHAOS. Looks like it hasn't moved since then, bloody waste... :(

DSCF1905.jpg

80's GM nonsense in it's natural 'hood-up' position. I imagine it spends more time up than down.

DSCF1906.jpg

Another one of these things.... nice orange seats in this one though

DSCF1907.jpg

HEY LOOK MY FINGER LOL!!11! This has a great 'patina' ie, it's a total shitter. I imagine the chassis is entirely made up of 'MOT standard' welds and glassfibre. Lovely

DSCF1908.jpg

thats all fer now, missed out on a Bluebird saloon, a nice split window type 2 and a Commer PB, hopefully track them down soon

Posted
 Your comment about the finger ... sir you are crazy !Anyway, great pictures Thanks for popping them up.Have not seen a Carlton like that for many a moon. But that Ascona - Ooft , Yes please
Posted

That Viva is ace! Seems to be quite a fair bit of tat in Brighton, but Ive never gone there to specifically spot things. Good spots.

Posted

How come i can only see the piccys in the topic review when im replying but not the main thread :? Ascona for me please

Posted

That Carlton is indeed lovely, I see it quite a lot as it tends to lurk around the 7 dials area. It's immaculate, amazing considering it lives outside in Brighton all the time.

It's the same for me too..??Thanks for the pics anyway.

Don't know what happened there guys, I used flickr to host my pics for the first time and I must've fucked up somewhere. changed all the pics to photobucket now, so should be ok!

Well, as I was quite literally fairly excited about getting a new camera finally, I went on a bit of a tat-spotting mission this morning. It seems that my rubbish photography skillz were not down to my shitty camera, but due to me being shit at taking pictures. ho hum.

First up was this tatty old Merc

Posted Image

TAYNE. S1 on beefy wheels

Posted Image

A bloody Niva! Not seen one for yonks, looks like it gets used as intended too.

Posted Image

Brighton is famous for it's annual Pride parade, although I hardly think it warrants a whole parade, it doesn't even have it's whitewalls anymore!

Posted Image

muddy Fezza

Posted Image

Roofrack used for purely practical purposes. this was very clean.

'static' caravan shite, perfect for the worst holiday of your life

Posted Image

Honda Inshite - when did you last see oen of these?

Posted Image

Exactly the same as the one I travelled to the south of France in when I was very young. I remember having to sit in the middle of the back seat, right on the steel bar - not very nice. Also remember standing on the seats and hanging out the top of the roof whilst blezzing down deserted French county lanes. good times.

Posted Image

Starlet Express.

Posted Image

It was mega clean, lovely brown seats and everything

Posted Image

Huge shite points here I reckon. A MK1 Fezza 'like they used to look' - Wob, rusty petrol stains from the filler cap etc. Still definitely would.

SUM MOAR

This was on the same street as the now infamous gold Carlton. Seemed pretty solid. not seen an early one for aaaaaaaages

Posted Image

Less interesting rival in background

A vision of beige lovelyness - seriously mint too

Posted Image

Posted Image

A proper, last of the line, super special edition solid gold collectors piece. Robins don't get any later, or more exclusive than this

Posted Image

Astra GL - 8)

Posted Image

That's all for now!

Posted

Loving that Robin 8)8)8)

IIRC it's one of the last 50, all of which had a commemorative plate on the dashboard, leather/wood interior, and metallic gold paint?

That Volvo is lovely. My parents had one exactly the same as that, though not as mint.

GR& pics!

Posted

Good spots there! That MKI Fiesta is mega early, and is a lovely bit of timewarp too. Also, I havent seen a Corolla saloon of that vintage for a while, must have been a poor seller compared to both the 5 and 3 door hatchback.

I think the last Robin was called the 65? 65 built.

Couple more, ya bastards

TRACTOR In central Brighton... not sure what it is

DSCN0040.jpg

Bluebird 910, metallic brown with a beige go-faster stripe, brown cushions on the parcel shelf, poundland trimz... might be owned by a giffer, or maybe just a trendy ironic Brighton wanker

DSCN0041.jpg

Very crusty Capri II, photos don't really do it justice, but every panel was rusty. This car is a bit of a Lady Gaga, in that I know I shouldn't, but I still definitely would

DSCN0044.jpg

DSCN0045.jpg

similarly crusty P6, this is one of my favourite old motors in town and one i've been meaning to snap for ages. It's someone's daily, and full of holes, but I totally covet this car. Sometimes I fantasise about owning this and driving round wearing a polo-neck and sports coat pretending i'm on my way to a town planning meeting in 1968. Thats right, I fantasise about fantasising whilst driving a shitty old car. HELP ME.

Reminds me of what Bill Maynard used to drive around in "The Gaffer"

Reminds me of my Sterling (wwhich incidently is also White and rusty), and yes, I did used to drive around pretending to be a 1980s company director or a stressed out business owner as my dad was.

I bet this still drives around unlike my Sterling which is pretty much dead now.

Tractor is a Massey Ferguson 35, I belive.

Couple more from the last weeks. slim pickings in B-town at the moment folks :(

Ah, the disabled bay at ASDA! Always prime shite-spotting territory

DSCN0149.jpg

This has turned up recently, must be very rare now? (Yes, it is still just about summer down south. I was on my way to a picnic when I took this)

DSCN0152.jpg

OMGZ! - This bloke is a bit of an Escort fiend, he's had a few MK1s and now this stripped out MK2

DSCN0151.jpg

A couple from the 'still working' series

DSCN0150.jpg

Check this out! I stood behind it for ages (waiting for a bus) before I realised what it was! Perfect in every way, this needs to be preserved 'as is' for future generations to experience.

DSCN0089.jpg

All for now!

Love the Tractor .Central Brighton? Splendid.

Passed that old green bus the other day-lovely. No ideawhat it is, but would love to own that, camperise it- and stick itoutfront of the workshop. Soooso much character

I love the Bedford TK, even better if it's running on its collections.

Yeeah, the Beford TK is well fit.

A friend of a friend built this before he moved to Canada, it is a well sorted old thing. It did have a V8 but no-one wanted to buy it so he put a four banger petrol back in it. It's a S2A by the way :)

Great spots that TK is awesome, when I lived and worked down there I used to see it fairly regularly on the A259.

Update time!

Same lad who owns the Mk2 Scrote has this Fezza aswell. It's off the trailer now so I should go down and get a better picture at some point

DSCN0158.jpg

Just up the road is this Crappuccino

DSCN0157.jpg

Next lot are all from today, had a nice day wandering around aimlessly snapping old rammle. Glorious!

I actually quite like this Goof, not too overdone, and it's brown

DSCN0164.jpg

Old Mercs must be one of the most popular old cars, there are still tons of them being used as daily drivers

DSCN0169.jpg

DSCN0172.jpg

DSCN0184.jpg

Nice little Mk2 Ashtray on pressed-steel (dealer?) plates. Going on the back arches of course, but otherwise very clean. The interior was mint!

DSCN0171.jpg

Camera playing silly buggers here, it was broad bloody daylight. One of the rustiest Minis I've seen in a long while

DSCN0174.jpg

Dead MR2

DSCN0179.jpg

Dead 205

DSCN0180.jpg

Panda!Panda!Panda!

DSCN0181.jpg

Not seen one of these before, grey import HONDA OBVIOUSLY. I think it was called a SURFWGN (sic)

DSCN0182.jpg

Autoshite Holidays Luxury 6-berth

DSCN0183.jpg

I think this belongs to my mate's mum. I was gonna do the London-Brighton 2CV run in this during the summer with them, but they had a big barney the night before and he refused to be in the same car as her. A moot point anyway as I got bladdered the night before and crawled out of bed at about 4pm

DSCN0185.jpg

Awesome! two-tone beige and maroon 6-wheeled Talbot. When I die, I'd like someone to waterproof one of these, put my body in it, set it on fire and push it out to sea like some sort of Viking funeral.

DSCN0186-1.jpg

Lovely little Vogue

DSCN0187.jpg

DSCN0188.jpg

Another slightly disgusting camper. wonder what the inside is like?

DSCN0189.jpg

Whatever

DSCN0190.jpg

This was cool, I saw this peeping out of a garage, there was a guy standing in the garden so I asked if I could take a photo. When I explained it was because I was a 'car buff' he took me over to another garage and showed me his Citroen Traction-avant and frogeye Sprite, but it was too dark to get a photo in there. Nice chap.

DSCN0191.jpg

Well, that's all for now, enjoy!

That Toyota is clearly a Honda, aren't they called an Odyssey or something?

I like that red Astra. And the Singer.

Posted

I can't find the 'Old Garages' thread, so I'll just leave these here

DSCN0165.jpg

DSCN0166.jpg

DSCN0167.jpg

What a shame - last time I visited here was the day my old camera died, and this place was still in it's brilliant 70s livery. Original pumps, loads of faded plastic signage, shabby paintwork. A proper timewarp place. Went back to get some piccies and this had happened - everything old painted a uniform navy blue, no traces at all of it's old life as a proper garage. They've even boarded up the pumps. I must have some serious fucking emotional problems because this got me all upset, I almost went in there to tell them what a horrible thing they've done, but then I remembered that mechanics are big scary blokes and I look like a fag.

At least they've kept the big swinging lights, and I got a nice-ish picture out of all my heartache.

DSCN0175.jpg

Seeing this place slightly lifted my spirits though, it's a plumbing supply shop that occupies one of my favourite buildings in Brighton, I'm always somewhat surprised to see it still open as it's in a bit of an odd location

DSCN0177.jpg

Oops. Edited that so now your comment makes no sense.

That 'RICHARDS GARAGE' place is round the corner from my house.

It's really wierd, it's hard to tell if it was an actual garage at some point of if it's just been made up by some wierd old man.

Ah, good old SMAC Group (Southend Motor and Aero Co) now Lookers. The old showroom this Mini came from is all boarded up and in danger of being demolished. I should really take the Maestro down there and get some pictures before it's too late.

GR12 Pics by the way! Love those old Vogues.

Posted

Nice work there, that Mini is ridiculously crusty, certainly havent seen one that bad for a long time now. The Talbot Minibus is great, again they must be pretty scarce these days and the Iveco Daily camper is so grotty its fantastic. Bet it smells like damp dog and Old Holborn inside.

Apparantly these are fucking hopeless. A couple of colleagues drove them in passenger service and they were prone to engine and gearbox failure. Nigh on impossible to set up the back brakes properly for MOT as well from what I've heard. The quote used by the fitters I know who worked on them was that they were "as saft as shite".

Another slightly disgusting camper. wonder what the inside is like?

DSCN0189.jpg

These Iveco 60F10s rot rather well... one I spotted a few months back...
