eddyramrod
Before 1983 if a car was registered when it wasn't new (imported, rebuilt write-off etc) it got a new plate. Ah yes, of course... hence all the displaced suffixes on American autos that were imported "used." I wonder where the Beetle came from then? It seems to be RHD... ashmicro
Those old Hyundai "X2" motors are fuggin ace. The late Mrs Ash had a purple one (a dealer spesh) when I first met her, and it was uber-shite. It was about 10 years old, filthy, had various bits of her makeup on the seats, dash and headlining, and 1 "dealer spesh" wheeltrim. The exhaust had been fixed with a food can, 2 Jubbly clips and a fuckload of GunGum. 4 totally different spark plugs, only one of which was the correct 16mm size. Oil like treacle, and not enough of it either. Knocking steering, suspension bangs, the lot. It STILL went OK, and wasn't all that thirsty. I got so worried about her driving it that I deliberately sabotaged the coil, and bought her an Onion mk5 diseasel for £500 from a mate's brother. Lord Sterling
Kin 'ell, another Happy Shopper. Here is one I spotted near Northfield in Birmingham, I nearly drove onto the roundabout next to it I was so shocked:
worldofceri
I'm pretty sure I've delivered stock to a Happy Shopper somewhere in Birmingham in the last year or so... Could well be that one. Unsurprisingly they were a strictly cash only customer.
scruff
That Happy Shopper is just up the road from Longbridge isn't it? It always makes me smile. There's another one in Fittleworth near Pulborough. Nice spots Barrett, the odd-reg VW could have come from a Channel Island, Ireland or somewhere like that
RedSparrow
Eeehh. They have re-branded happy shopper products as 'euro shopper' now. I blame them foreigners. oman5
I was in Brighton last year for a wedding, driving my old volvo 740. I was stunned how well it fitted in...old volvos everywhere down there. I guess its because although its a dear place to live its also very cosmopolitan- has a broad section of all social classes.

barrett
Well after the unbounded enthusiasm following my last update, I'm expecting a veritable tidal wave of appreciative comments after you see this lot. Andrew353w
The green single-decker bus at the start of this thread was based at the Bideford garage of the (long gone) Western National Omnibus Company, as I used to catch it to school! The bus garage is now a housing estate (no surprise there, then!) but it's stragely odd to see the bus again. Clearly built out of something stronger than the fibreglass used in most buses these days (granite?)
barrett
Hey Andrew that's amazing! barrett
Gary, yes the green one near the station and there was briefly an early round light one that was red so possibly that one too Eddy, vile abomination it may be but it's nice to see a 35 year old truck still working for a living especially given how valuable these things have become in recent times. I'm not saying I would want to drive it but I'm glad somebody does.
Vin
Agree with you Barrett Homes, that Pandora does look nice on those wheels. I wonder what they are? Although it is a 900 it is actually a 900E rather than a T, due to plastic side trim and mirrors. It will also have front disc brakes and square rear lights. Different dashboard too. And door handles. I think the red 850T (early round light one) you mention was the one recently for sale on 'carandclassic'. From the seller's blurb they'd purchased it from Rory Cole who is an 850 specialist somewhere in West Sussex. From what I remember Cole bought it from someone on Retro Rides and when collecting it, it got nicked with the trailer it was on, from Doncaster services. Camper was later found abandoned.
