What was your girlfriend/boyfriends vehicle when you first met them?

First driving girlfriend - her dad was an ex-pat and kept a fairly new Datsun Stanza 1.6 at hers which she drove around in. It was OK - even had a fifth gear (but couldn't hold it on the motorway at 70mph on any sort of incline)

The now Mrs_Craig had what was then a newish Astra mk4 convertible, the Edition 100 model with tan leather and BBS alloys.

It was sold to raise funds for fixing her 19 year old cat which managed to break its leg while we were on a few days break in Scotland. She bought a 1998 MGF with the change

and got a few months out of it before the inevitable cooling system issues made themselves known (we began fixing it before throwing in the towel and “upgrading” to a 2008 TF in Vibrant Orange).

A four* seater was required again so the TF was traded in against a two year old Astra Twintop with only 200 miles on the clock.  She moved it on at about 3200 miles and we still see it about, the dealer exported the orange MG to Guernsey and it eventually moved on again to England, don't know about the blue MG or the older Astra but in both cases the registration marks are now on other vehicles.

Way before we met, my wife had a series of Fords, namely Fiestas mk1 and mk2, then various mostly soft-top Escorts starting with one of those all-white mk3 convertibles with factory fitted RS turbo bodykit which must have been a special edition of some sort.  No photos of that but we found this one which was an early mk5,

No doubt recycled long ago now.

She didn't drive vehicles and still doesn't.

I won her over by riding a KH250 flat out past a few times.

My first was in a Fiesta. I found her in a bush up the park.

My wife introduced me to the joys* of diesel cars with her mk2 Golf. It was when diesels (even turbos) were well down on power and performance compared with petrol cars and overtakes needed about the same length as a 747 needs to take off.

My Mrs probably had the most extreme opposite end of that performance spectrum, with her Impreza..

07 Spec D Impreza with of the full Prodrive Performance Packages for handling and power, which even deleted the table top boot spoiler for a tiny lip spoiler.

Everything was painted grey or black down to the brake calipers.Very subdued to look at unless you knew Subarus..

Well I managed to get an Impreza 11 years later.

The fair Mrs barefoot owned a five year old Allegro LE in java green metallic, exactly like the one in the picture but with lashings of hidden rust.

My mrs wasn’t driving when I met her - she had learned to drive, but then moved and didn’t drive for the few years between then and meeting me.

She learned to drive in a brown Mk1 Favorit, which seemed to put her off the idea of driving for some reason…

The first car she had whilst we were together was a Micra that I bought her, but she didn’t get on with it and it was binned off in favour of a Civic which she did gel with - I guess this was officially the first car she had after I met her.

She never had the confidence to drive that car alone though; I always had to ride along with her when she drove.

The car that gave her the confidence to drive by herself was a 3 litre Subaru Legacy.

Look at how happy she is with that flat 6 engine!

Whilst she doesn’t have any real interest in cars, she tells me that the Subaru, the Lexus LS and the Disco 3 are her favourite cars to date - she’s not a fan of small cars with small engines anymore.
