It's almost like there's some kind of weird interference at that spot in Larbert!

Too close to my fleet. The fuckedness must be contagious. 😬

Funny, I started to develop a suspicion there was something uncanny about the Fortwilliam offslip on the M2 citybound outside Belfast, as the EML on the Forester tended to ping on just as I scooted past it. Happened about three or four times, even when it had been behaving itself for weeks.

Eventually I twigged that the warning light's appearance was somehow linked to running it up from stop-start 40mph on the A2 to a continuous 70mph for about three miles after joining the motorway, which just so happened to coincide with the location of the offslip. A faulty lambda sensor was mooted as the cause, but as we know, the problem kind of solved itself - in a roundabout way...

I've no further wisdom* to impart, sadly - here's hoping this can either be fixed easily, or there's a sale coming your way soon!

As a test, I took the car on the same piece of road once it was fully up to temperature, rather than at about 60 degrees having only come the short distance from the station car park. The car accelerated completely fine with no light on the dash and full power was definitely available.

So it seems like it's something that happens only when it's warming up, so far in my investigations anyway.

Wasn't there a radio transmitter mast somewhere that was cited as being the cause of many cars suddenly dying as they drove past it?

I was starting to think that but it doesn't explain why it doesn't do it when up to temperature.

EGR gunked and not playing ball when cold on full throttle, turbo not getting what it expects and it throws a code?

Here's where it does it:

Exit from roundabout:

Start of the M876. Where you can just see the nearest car in the distance, that's where the power fluffs and goes into limp mode.

Coming from Larbert train station which is about a mile away and the car sits all day, the car is only just  about 50% of the way to operating temperature by the time I reach here.

When I tried it at lunchtime I came straight from my house which is about 4 miles away so the car was well warmed up and it drove normally.

There's no codes for it but I'm just wondering if it's some kind of duff MAF or coolant temp sensor.

I'd never do anywhere near full throttle on cold (or hot for that matter, such is my sedate drive style) but it does feel when it happens that something along those lines is happening. Somethings not getting the signal it expects.

As an aside, have you seen the Auto Shennigans video about that spot. He reckons that is the only designated pedestrian crossing point of a motorway in the UK.
It also a great wee stretch for a burst of acceleration.

Yeah, it's a dodgy crossing alright!

Bloody hell! Pedestrian crossing? As in zebra crossing? Is it maintained by Dignitas?

It’s strange. No zebra etc but the paved path leads you across the motorway on either side. It is a hangover from when Stirling Road went straight up that way. I might head that way with the dog later and take a picture.

Could the windmills be slowing it down?

I want to use the opportunity and announce my interest should you find yourself in the same situation!
