Automotive cockroaches for the 20s and 30s.

So, are some of the cockroaches simply cars that sold in large numbers (rather than being particularly durable). As there were a lot to start with they take a lot longer to thin out in numbers.

With lots getting broken it’s easier to get spare parts and the cheaper aftermarket suppliers cater for them as there is a large market. There’s also alot of knowledge built up to deal with common problems and hence fixes.

They just seem to be tough as old boots….

I think I was massively unlucky to have a 1.4 16v Astra G that dumped all its oil and died and a 1.6 8v that smoked and died as well - also burning oil. Maybe it was just me!

I reckon these things will be very hard to kill off. One of the local taxi firms has one of these on, and I'm not joking, nearly 600,000 miles and its still going strong. Had to double take on my way home from the pub, thought I was way more passed it then I was until I asked the driver and he confirmed that they have owned it since new (2011) and it's been in constant use since. He says it's the best car in the fleet and they have no plans to get rid of it. So yeah I reckon these things.

And @Supernaut hasn't had an easy ride with his Astra G either.

The MK5 Fiesta. Despite the last one being sold 16 years ago there is absolutely tons of them about, even with their habit of losing their rear axles. My daughter has a 2003 one that’s a bit of a nail but just keeps going and has no body rust at all. I see at least 5/10 of them a day and that’s in the rust capital of Glasgow. You definitely didn’t see 5/10 Mk2 Escorts daily back in 1996, you were lucky to see one every six months unless you knew somebody with one.
