Very very French

I'm going to be so disappointed if I win this and @Lacquer Peel isn't on the bonnet when I collect it.

I thought they were seen as a bit more mainstream than a GSA or CX TBH.

Definitely were seen as more mainstream, the fleet buyers loved them for a while in the 80's and early 90's - cheaper than fords and vauxhall equivalent and as all citroen owners know, a better 'an car' with more extras for the price. They literally were the car that saved citroen (again) as did the 2CV, DS, Traction, GS+A etc at various points. The BX is the reason the public took to buying citroens in numbers (think of the numbers AX, Xsara, Xantia, Picasso, Saxo etc sold in) as they could trust them by this point - Apart from all the 'expensive and complex to fix' naysaying idiots that still exist today. I mean, we all know its easier to make a bit of pipe and screw on a sphere than it is to change snapped springs and rusted up dampers in reality.

I’m both delighted and gutted not to have won. I mean, I need another car like a hole in the head, but this would have been a great way to make said hole.

Commiserations to the non winners. So is it anyone we know who did win?

The guy collected this morning and I'm delighted it's found a good home. He's definitely an enthusiast as he has a c15 and a dyane so in good company. Said he plans to keep, improve and possibly replace his van. He's driving it down to Exeter now so I'm hopeful he gets there. Its still on the old cambelt, I told him he's a braver man than I but 🤷‍♂️

According to the gov tax checker, a v5 was issued in December 2023, which would suggest maybe it's changed keeper again since October?

I just can't fathom why someone would go to the trouble of buying a car like that, and just drive it straight to the scrap yard when they're done with it. The guy in the video claims it drove there. It starts on video, the suspension seemed to be all working?

Bizarre. I'm surprised and saddened by this. I know the guy I sold it to put it straight up for sale probably on a citroen forum (he said he was a member of some) and I had a message on ebay from a guy who subsequently bought it. I assume he used my original ad as basis for his advert. Suspension, brakes, engine etc all working when it left me and obviously with a full mot so cannot understand why someone's done this. It's had a "UK" sticker added so possible it's been used as a copycat AutoAlex trip to Paris perhaps and then binned

Looks like the YT fella works for Trents in Poole, Dorset. Could be worth a call? I can't see it on their salvage auction list though, so in theory it's going to have a COD issued unless someone gets in pronto...

I don't have faceache but I've posted a message on the YT video asking about it. If you look at the guys other videos there are a few "scrapped" cars he's saved, ie Fiesta ST so possibly done this for clicks who knows. The new exhaust section I brought for it has been fitted and support welded back by looks of it too

Having asked the guy on ebay what happened it certainly looks like it's been scrapped. I actually lost financially on it but the guy who bought it from me paid less than £700 so must have made a tidy sum. I find it hard to believe someone that shelled out nearly £2k for a car sends it for scrap 7 weeks later

There does come a cut off point - I had a 10 year old high miles TZD which as fast as you repaired one bit, another bit would start pissing out LHM, or diesel, or smoke.

I persevered with it for 3 months and back then (1999 ish) was about £600 or £700 deep in it before I thought fuck this and cut my losses. Could it have been saved? Sure with enough time and money. Was it for me to do that? Nah. Bought another £300 snotter (IIRC was an AX) and pootled about in that without issue for 9 months before my mother in law bent it.

My old Mk2 Focus was a bit like that, I cut my losses as the clutch was on the way out and I was getting a sense it was going to become one bill after another

If you hadn't retracted your bid none of this would have happened 😂
