She was a despatch rider in the war so is presumably hamming it up for the photographer.

Glad you cleared that up.

Early ‘80s Mustangs were never known for their build quality but this is ridiculous! 😝

Fighter ace Albert Ball, VC, MC, DSO and bar (all by the age of 20). The car has an English body on an American Overland chassis. He's either very small or the car is HUGE.

Must have been early in the day’s filming. There’s still a lot of tread on that tyre.

1974 Pontiac Catalina.  Why the Q-plates?

First registered in UK: 1 Sept. 1983.  Tax ran out 11 April 1994.  No MOT history.

There was a period when the doovla wanted everything non-standard to get Q plates. Mercifully they got over it.

not quite, the Q plate was introduced on the 1st of August 1983, this was part of a bigger over-arching policy change at the DVLC, where more emphsis was placed on the idenity and age of the vehicle when it was being registered etc

before that date, all imports like that Pontiac would of just been given a plate of whatever was current at time of registration, as seen by this 1953 Buick BGN664X on an X reg with some tasty Serks plates :) (I really hope they are still on it!)

52043157830_2a27eb8536_o.jpg

the problem is that when these policies changes where introduced in August 1983, the DVLC was much stricter you had to prove the identify/age of your import, and if you could, it would then get an Age related plate, but if you failed to do so, it ended up on a Q plate

and during the early days of this policey change, people where not quite geared up for that, hence why quite a few imports from that time period are on Q plates, I also suspect that during those early days, there was less stigma/bother around a Q plate

these days if a vehicle is to go on a Q plate it has to through an IVA (individual vehicle approval) which is a big faff, but back in 1983, there was not so such strict requirements, so it was probably more whatever

in the same way that back then people where not so bothered by their import being on an X reg or whatever, where as today, if you imported a 1953 Buick and it was given a 74 plate, someone would complain

(tho personally I would keep my trap shut and see how long I can keep it for )
