My favourite Richard Burton story is from when he was filming Where Eagles Dare. 

Shooting for the day had just finished so Richard scampered off set pronto to find the nearest pub without even bothering to get changed out of his Nazi costume. When he walks into the boozer a group of builders at the bar look at him dumbfounded and sensing their shock Burton says "Well you fuckers are still wearing your work clothes so why shouldn't I?"

I heard a story that a few years before he died he had a operation on his back and when opened he had crystallized alcohol on his spine ...
