New bikeshite

A week or so ago, Spottedlaurel mentioned to me that a mate of his had an old CZ180 he was looking to get rid of. So I trundled down this evening after work to have a look. £40 later it was in the back of the Espace and heading home.

It's a K-reg (although it looks a lot older, and it also feels older to sit on - much like a small '60s British bike in fact). It's been off the road for three years, but still kicks over fine with plenty of compression (it's got that wonderful CZ feature where you flip the gear lever over backwards and it becomes a kick start) and I'm confident that with some fresh fuel and a quick clean of the plug it won't take too much effort to get started. Then I can trundle round making a noise like an angry horsefly and leaving clouds of blue smoke behind me. 8)

+eleventy, difficult to trump that in bike shite stakes. Unless anyone on here has a Cossack Urinal combo?

Hurrah! Glad you sorted something with him and that you think it's a viable proposition.

CZ is part of the same organisation as Jawa. Both were Czechoslovakian. MZ was East German, but the concept was very similar.

I would imagine it was called that because it would intrude into your work and personal life by throwing tantrums everywhere

Splendid.Bet its an absolute horror to ride! Low mileage perhaps?Might need one of those for the back of the Barkas!

garbaldy asked "so which is best then czechs or the germans"

The MZ's were by far the best East European bike (once the Pneumant tyres were dumped). My list of Eastern steeds.....

Neval Minsk

MZ TS125

MZ TS150 (x2, including one that was stood for 12 years, on charging the (original) battery it started second kick!)

MZ TS 250 Supa 5 (the best East European bike ever)

MZ ETZ250

Jawa 350

MZ Saxon Tour (lets rock)

and a.... Neval Planeta Combination - what an evil beast this was. The kickstart was mounted on the left, as was the sidecar. On attempting to kick over the single cylinder engine it would kick back spectacularly, trapping your foot in the tubing - ouch. A squirt of easy start would help but it was always a gamble when starting.

Incidently, MZ never made a 180

Also, you can still buy a brand new Jawa 350 http://www.jawamotorcycles.co.uk/home.html

Now, this tat bike thread is a real education !!I was in South Bohemia last autumn, and met a guy who had a collection of MINT CZ's in his house, under the open-plan stairs !! must go back a take pics for y'all to grunt over. (steady on, Nigel!!)

My mistake! It was a Neval Planeta Sport 350! What a heap!

The Planeta was a 350cc single with Russian Mechanics and Yamaha electrics so should've started well and then fallen apart!
