I'll be honest in the past I've delivered a car personally for fuel only to make sure the sale goes through.

This. Before Jr_oui_si turned up my standard car advert included that I would deliver it anywhere on the mainland for £100 which back in those halcyon days would cover fuel and a train back home.

Now, I just can't justify spending a day going to do that.

I’m gonna say yes to it. I think I’ve worked myself up so much I’m trying to find fault.

At the end of the day if I chuck him £25 and he turns up and the wheels have fallen off or the engines hanging out, he can turn around and take it back

If it blows up the next day I will have legal rights as he’s a dealer.

We’ve agreed that he’s going to be here 7AM on Friday, he’s fine with me giving it a good look over and I’ve clarified that I’ll be given a proper dealership invoice etc.

If this turns out to be a scam, he’s given me Stockholm syndrome, I love him.

He does sound pretty genuine to be fair. I too was a little suspicious but then realised in the past that I’ve done similar for my customers in the past, especially for something that’s been hanging around a while.

That particular colour is well known in the trade for being an absolute arse to retail…I imagine that’s why he’s keen to get a sale and is happy to go the extra mile. I reckon it would have sold a while back for far more money had it been a more desirable colour!

See Amber really likes the colour 😂 I’m on the fence with it but I can imagine it taking longer to sell over the typical black/white/grey/silver.

I’ve just had his bank details sent to give the £25 (😂) deposit and the name matches exactly what I’d found on Facebook from doing my own digging - Ravindra - still signed it off as Rob so clearly just goes by an English name.

I’ll let you all know if we get scammed out of £25!

I'm keeping my eye out for an end of line Mk6 as the 2008 run out models had all the goodies and were tough as old boots, they do crop up with low mileages occasionally, my thinking is they'd be more sorted than the first year of a new model

The used market is up the wall lately though :(

Update: it shat its head gasket this morning but I've coincidentally just bought another mk6 for £400. Things give and take...

Also just found out that pre March 2010 1.6 TDCI’s don’t have a DPF. Happy days. Still £20 a year tax too.

No DMF as well on some of the earlier diesel Mk7s.

I think it’s the way he writes makes it feel weird 😂

Im a bit nervous about it all but he’s going to be here between 6-7am Friday so we’ll soon see how this pans out!

‘Twas the night before Scam-mas.. when all through the house, JJ0063’s anxiety was stirring..

Alarm set for 5:45AM. Said he’s going to be here between 6-7AM.

Praying it’s as described, I’ll feel awful if I have to send him all the way back if it’s shit.

Rejected

He wouldn’t leave, I ended up giving him £50 to cover his fuel.

Every panel on that car had been painted bar the roof

Headlights had green paint where the masking tape hadn’t covered

Drivers door handle looked like it had been painted with nail varnish

Runs in lacquer

Lacquer too thin in places and just felt rough

Orange peel like mad

I didn’t even sit in it, the outside was enough.

He started off saying but it’s HPI clear, I just said yeah it will be if someone hasn't claimed for it.

Then at the end he slipped up and said there was a slight scrape on the passenger rear arch so he had that repaired and as it’s hard to blend the colour they had to do the side. Looks like they ended up doing the whole car.

On to the next one!

Photo from the Ring bell to show he did at least turn up.

Oh well, as you say, onwards and upwards.  I'm not sure I'd have given him more fuel money, but still probably not a lot more than it would have cost you to go to the Midlands to view it and it saved a lot of your time.

So he was a chancer. Now all the “kind hearted” overly helpful shit makes sense. He genuinely thought that would be enough to cover up the fact he was selling an unsellable turd.

you’re a kinder man than me, I’d have made him stick to his word and ensured he left promptly. Sorry you had your time wasted chap.

Oh well.  Trying to pull wool over the eyes of somebody that has worked for years in car insurance isn't a particularly smart move.

He kept saying things like “but this is mechanically perfect, would you prefer one thats just being flipped like most traders? I know this car very well” - yeah because you have had it almost a year and by the looks of it have painted it yourself.

Considering the advert says “in our opinion the car is faultless” I have to say it bloody wasn’t. From what I saw of inside, it looked lovely and from 10ft away the whole thing looked ideal. It’s when you got up close it showed. I don’t have any background of bodywork but the front bumper for example, had spider web cracking in the paint, lacquer runs in places then other parts were so thin it had chipped already and felt very coarse/rough when you rub your palm over it.

the drivers door handle I’m not sure what had been done. He said it was the previous owner catching a ring on it.. in my opinion it looked like a navy blue door handle that had been painted with a green touch up brush.

What did Amber think?

He was late so she had to go to work in the Scirocco, she trusts me to make the call which is lucky because if he’d have turned up with it and started rattle canning it on the drive she would still buy it. When she gets her heart set on something that’s that.

I’ll find something this weekend I’m sure. She’s come round to Ds3’s as well as Fiesta, Polo, Golf now so slightly more to look at..

I might know of a black three door in the Rutland/Northants/Lincs border area that'll be up for sale soon.

The chap popped to see the Dave I share my unit with to ask if we could put a couple of bumpers on it before he gets rid as it's had the corners used for parking. 🙄, I know nothing of the history of the car though.

I can make enquiries when it arrives?

Thanks for the offer!

Now that the Mini is SORN, we need to try and get something this weekend ideally but if we struggle, I’ll give you a shout! Cheers

If I get one more message from him I’m blocking the number

Id say he’s had people view this before and not buy it. If I was a dealer and had just driven a 5 hour round trip I’d be annoyed with the buyer for not buying it, not begging them to still think about having it.
