Madam had her test today, and failed it on observations during the parallel park.

Based on that, I'm pretty certain that a significant proportion of people would fail a test if they took one today! It's pretty shocking how many times I see people manoeuvring cars without looking all around and focusing on the direction they're heading. For example, people reversing back without actually looking at all because they realise they were about to take a wrong turn or whatever.

Probably one for the standards of driving thread, but at least she's not alone in her error. I'm not trying to say I'm a saint but I do try to pay attention to blind spots and always directly looking where I'm going - not relying on mirrors alone!

Lack of observations is a silly mistake, I'm sure she'll get there in the end but it definitely sounds like she needs humbling with regards to ideas of a first car 😂

Fred update for anyone who gives a fuck. She's still been on about a Polo, Corsa, Golf or Fiesta ST, so I ran a ST through an insurance comparison site to shut her up as "insurance won't be that much" 🤣 the cheapest quote was £7000, the most expensive £17000, they are basically saying fuck off you silly girl you've no chance of getting a ST 🤣

I once got a quote for £34000 for my ( then) 17 yo son to drive a Subaru WRX.

Apparently madam and her boyfriend are going to look at a car at the weekend for her, she hasn't said what though so could be anything

I must admit I use mirrors a lot when reversing though I drive buses and coaches for a living and when reversing those you can only use mirrors

A lot of modern cars have very poor visibility out of the back window , so mirrors are needed for reversing.

Madam has bought herself a white Corsa today, she's just been on the phone to the Mrs to inform her. At the moment I don't know what age etc though knowing madam she will want something as new as possible.

No it's a 2011 1.0, she's already bragging that it's newer than the Purple Peril, but to be honest who cares?

Apparently they pick it up tomorrow. Driving test booked again for November

Has she had to have someone get out of the Corsa and help push it along yet given how vastly underpowered the 1.0 is? 😄

Not yet, though it transpires its actually a 1.2 not a 1.0

What's the difference, in the real world?

From my limited experience with Corsa D's, the 1.2 feels a bit less strangled compared to the 1.0, as compared to the preceding models, that shape of Corsa is fairly heavy.

Madam rang up her mum earlier whinging that the EML on the Corsa has come on, she reckons it isn't fair that the seller won't repair it. Private sale so sold as seen, no comeback whatsoever.

It was probably present 5 minutes before the car was collected and cleared :😀

Madam has finally got the EML on her car sorted,  I don't know what was wrong with it, I got told to mind my own fucking business when I asked.

Who knows? Apparently it cost £30 to sort whatever it was

Here's an idea - hire her a car for a banger race meeting, that'll prepare her nicely for when she inevitably crashes the Corsa in a few months. ;)

And, as an aside, if I'd ever told my parents to "fuck off" or "mind their own business" when I was in my late teens, I'd have got a black eye.

Madam is convinced she won't have a prang in the Corsa in her first year of driving, I doubt that somehow 🤣

Eyerseyette has apparently got her driving test again next week. The Corsa has hardly been used since she got it, the engine light came on days after she bought it, as it was a private sale no comeback whatsoever, she whinged like fuck that the seller wouldn't fix it. She got a mobile mechanic out who apparently 'fixed' it, the next time she drove it the light came back on again. Turns out  there is a split coolant pipe causing it according to another mobile mechanic.

Update for anyone that gives a fuck. Madam passed her test about a couple of weeks ago. She's already whinging like fuck about the cost of her insurance, to which we said yep its because you're under 25, and she's moaning about people sticking to speed limits, what she doesn't seem to realise is if she gets 6 points within 2 years she's back to provisional again. Apparently it also isn't fair she has to have a black box, never mind 🤣

Madam crashed the Corsa today, rushing and not paying enough attention she hit a fence and ripped the front bumper off

We managed to get the bumper clipped back on so she could get home but she will need to get it sorted properly, knowing madam it wouldn't surprise me if she doesn't bother though
