pog, how appalling are the 'Series' Land Rovers comfort-wise? I've been quite pleased with coil sprung LRs, but I imagine those old cart sprung throwbacks are a bit shit.

At risk of incurring the wrath of the L-R lickers on here, I hate the damn things. The farm where my dad works had a SIII Safari new in 1973 and whilst it battled on for the next 25 years clocking up half a million miles, tons of abuse and one full resto halfway through, it's still the most godawful vehicle I've ever had the misfortune to be around.

Perhaps it's reviews like that affecting me, but I was pleasantly surprised by Series Landies. Agricultural with a capital A, but not that bad to drive - certainly no worse than an Isuzu Trooper Mk1 I once owned. That had new rear springs and was HORRIFIC to drive.

The yellow Dyane looks very nice. Replacing the crankcase breather could well cure the oil leak, which'd be £50 well spent.

Trouble with series Landrovers is that most peoples impressions are gained from driving knackered ones. Drive a tidy, well looked after one. with tight steering, decent springs and well maintained brakes and they are quite pleasant old things. I've had loads and they CAN be used as dailys but not particularly suitable for distance work.

I'll attempt to you that in a conversation:

Knob-jockey: "What are we doing today Twatty?"

Twatty: "I've bought this old Saab, and we're going to ABORTIONATE it"

Knobjockey: OMGRATLUKYOGR64DRIFTIN

Do I win £10?

To you that? Oh my!

I was thinking more along the lines of...

Knobjockey - "My, my Mr Twatty, what an abortionate looking pile of fucktarded bumhattery that once fine looking and clearly well maintained Swedish Vectra has become. I would very much like to partake in the sex with you."

Twatty - "OMGRATLUKYOGR64DRIFTINYOINNIT!"

Alas, I also don't have ten pounds to offer as a prize, however I can offer one pea in brine - any use?

I'll pass on that thanks, put it in the poor box.

At least it was a poor man's Cavalier and not an actual SAAB 900. It does seem to have been an unusually good one though. :(

I'd ask for one of the Leyland Nationals as a prize m8, cos it would be GR84DRIFTIN 8)

I will probably put a bid in, its just a bad few weeks for me financially

If it's Monday, this must be Greece.

This is a grand old bus for €250.

Rather better Y10 than €300 would get you in Italy.

Say WHAT now? €300.

This looks all right for €300. Cheaper than hiring some crap-arse holiday Hyundai for two weeks.

Actually, sod that: here's the ideal Autoshite holiday runabout. How great is this for €350?

€350. Nice 2.0 Ghia for €500 as well.

Look at the Stavros-love bestowed upon the interior of this '78 Ascona! Triffic for €400.

The Hellenic climate seems kind on Italian rot-magnets. I like these - especially when they're only €400.

€400. Lots of nice old Starlets/Stanzas/Cherrys etc around this price and all... and indeed this squeaky-clean 19k km Accord for €500:

I  these MG Farinas. To carry on the MGB Saloon theme, this one even has an MGB engine, with a bottom end death rattle

!B2E(Zc!EGk~$(KGrHqYOKjoE)NLnO2uoBMg+Ld,f4g~~_12.JPG

I think some Rostyle wheels would suit this well, the cad's car when he's fallen on hard times and can't afford a Rover P5. Pass me the trilby hat :D

Wonder if this is a viable daily driver? Does it have a heater and demister?

Posted

That Lada estate is the same colour as the saloon my grandad had (DWY 403Y).

The orange Corolla 30 would attract a lot of interest here, wonder if it's as rot free as it looks.

I do like the idea of a hotted up Magnette Q-car though I think I'd want a ZB. Is MGB tune the hottest you can go or is there a stage further?

Here's an exact copy of a 1930s car, fitted with the popular 8 inch wheels of the period
