Travelling with a camera: my photo scans from the early 90's

Good stuff, that S12 looks absolutely mint! Makes me deeply regret selling the very nice red one I owned.

Posted Image

This isn't a ZX by the way...no front or rear spoiler and no front fogs gives the game away. It'll be an SGX I would think, but being Polish it would be a completely different spec to anything we got.

Well it's currently Polish, god knows where on the planet it's been before now  I remember reading the Autocar first test on the ZX Coupe, don't think they reckoned it was up to much but then again I got the sense there was a general anti-Jap bias at the time.

I quite like that toilet duck MG - and I generally hate the things. There's a Rover V8 in there, not surprisingly.

I forgot to post this....

Its a 1300S, arches are fine, sills might need attention, interior is slightly worn and the old bike in the back needs tyres, wheels, gears and some lube.

I don't know anyone with one of these, but its got to be worth something in parts to someone at least. Its in my old haunting grounds in Wantage, Oxfordshite.

A few spots of interest:

Saw this driving on the opposite carriageway of the A1 near Scotch Corner as I made my way to the Bubble car meet. Disappointingly driven by some old folk and not some delicious nymphette.

Posted Image

Very clean, and the earliest Panda I've seen in some time. I'm not keen on taking shots while actually on the move - not something to be encouraged kids.

Closer to Doncaster the A1 starts to fowl up with traffic so, I cut across Doncaster, and am rewarded by this:

The cars at the bubble car museum has been well documented but I can't resist banging up Joncedrics lovely horse. Pony.

Had a fine time, despite being beaten by a 6 year old girl on the AFX slotcar racing.

Headed south and saw these:

And then drove back up north the next day, but stopped off at Gaydon. Certainly worth dropping in for the variety and friendly staff - a little bit pricy at £9.00 but offset that with the unique machinery:

Predated the Range Rover by some 10 years.

One of 2 made.

Built by Michelotti.

Built by Pininfarina, has shades of 204 cabriolet in it I reckon.

Interesting to see this here - first UK built carina. Odd to see it without dents, scrapes, tissue boxes, bald tyres and astro-mileage. I suspect Hirst will be turning up in something like this in 10 years time. I think the first UK production Bluebird or Primera is in some museum in Sunderland - I'll have to inspect that.

I reckon info for all the cars above can be found on that rather good austin-rover site.

Spotted these on my way up north after Gaydon.

To finish my extended exciting mileage filled weekend, I spotted this at a garage very late on monday night near the A1 Scotch Corner again. Must be a hot spot for Datsuns or something.

Wow that museum looks worth a visit.Strange that the white rally Maxi is a saloon??Amazing just how much European influence resides in some of the BL prototypes as stated. The new Dolly has hints of Fiat 132, and the P6 looks strangely Citroenesque at the front. The Bluebird must be the only one in existence outside Japan, like, ever. Surely.

My isp is really boiling my pi55 now....images are missing so I thrown the latest batch on flickr.

First lot are the j-tin selection (as seen on rr, ojc and doc) so apologies for this multi-forum madness.

Thats out of the way, now for the rest - very little in terms of shite to be honest but I like to think my carina (blue 4 door saloon in the selection above) made up for that.

Some Italian choice cuts from the show:

Followed by a swift scattering of precision engineering:

Stuff of mixed ancestory:

As many as 500 of these were registered in 2001. According to the owner - can this be right? Seems like a wildly optimistic number considering how few are seen.

Lovely subtle colour, slightly over exposed shot unfortunately.

And finally some of the more interesting UK stuff (to me anyway)

This was like Father Cherrys only British car - I think I would have been transported back from Shrub Hill maternity unit to the house in something like this. I love the Marina colour palettes of these late 1100/1300's.

The Maestro was not one of the newest cars there - there was a whole crock of bloody PT cruisers, as well as 5 year old BMW 5 series and fresh from the dealer MX5's. Asides from that was a grand day out. Apart from a distinctive lack of French cars.

Flickr ones work for me too.

I believe this still belongs to the first owner, who is more than getting on a bit now. Same colour as the saloon I had, unfortunately this estate is beginning to show it's age but still a fabulous sight. Minty green Mk2 Granada is the pick for me.

Fab pics! I think the Capri gets my vote! The MK1 Astra Celebrity is owned by a member of my Vauxhall Club and it is as mint as it looks in the pics. At the Vauxhall Show at Santa Pod 2 weeks ago there was only 1 other Celebrity there so I take it they are pretty rare 8)

Some ace stuff there - very nearly attended the show myself, but decided against it in the end. Shame!! Love the Sunbeam Imp (Stiletto?) and the Saab Sonet - never even heard of that before. The green Granada was also at the Renishaw Hall show the previous Wednesday- bet it does most of it's milage travelling between shows!

Subject to my internets working, I present you with a whole load of pictures from Saturday glamourous North east 'Stockton-on-tees, Preston park classic fire engine day' followed by a A69 sunday dash across the country to a damp but not unfriendly Moffat Classic car show in scotland.

Won't post every car because that would be tedious, so here are a pick of the 100 or so cars over the 2 days.

One of many Fire appliances.

4wd and seemingly able to tow a trailer.

And then a selection from the Moffat Show - this is a rootes car event mostly - Rootes obviously have a strong connection with Scotland. There was a really impressive selection.

Quite a few other car clubs were in attendance too -

Every 2nd wednesday of the month there is an informal meet at the glamourous Metrocentre shopping centre in Gateshead - this is the 3rd one I've attended and there always seems to be a good turn out of cars.

These 2 caught my eye.

Other attractions:

Bizarre. From what I understand its home built (oh rely?) and is powered by a diesel engine.

Posted Image

This once belonged to Pinewood studios who used it as a filming vehicle.

Posted Image

Posted Image

I do like these Nissans. Not sure whether they're fashionable or only driven by beautiful people. I'm neither but make a lot of sense to me.

A bit more down to earth:

And finally some gratuitous compositions. I didn't take too many shots, as the rain was relentless.

That Cube was at the J.A.P.S show at Ollerton at the weekend. Very cool looking things in the flesh if a little large for my liking. It looked huge parked next to a Pao. There was a Honda SM-X like the one pictures above too. Apparently that stands for Street Movement Extreme or something equally daft.

Excellent. I was struggling to find out what model it was. While researching (or rather googling) I came across the Honda Life Dunk, Honda Mobilio Spike and Honda Bukkakke Dragon. Ok the last one is made up.
