I wouldn't want to leave it outside tbh. Tried a couple of scrappys for the pump relay today, all 190s seem to have been cleared out long since (ironically for export!) and apparantly the relays are specific for each engine/model.

Cheers, will bell them tomorrow.

Dronsfields said £25.00+VAT. I asked why their website said £20 and they said 'that's NOT a fuel pump relay it's a part of something similar'

Merc want £140+VAT for a new one.

£25 + VAT doesn't seem bad if it gets the car back on the road, I say go for it :)

BX works again. Only had to remove most of the induction system and the clutch fork assembly. Bloody French cars. Still, must easier than the Renner 21!

A chap on a forum has offered to recondition the dynamo on my Landcrab, so fingers crossed that should be fixed soon :D

Cambridge is still soldiering on, although there's a nasty knock from the exhuast (rear mounting sheared) and the clutch slip is getting worse. I wish I wasn't so skint and could afford to take it to a garage and leave it with them, like most people do :(

Got some of the (broken) trim from the Passat, last owner was cackhanded, and removed the stupid turbo gauge (guage?) and broken vents. Plan is to get the bits tomorrow at the scrappy.

Young sir;

See pm ref the above..........

I need to get the bumpers and wheel trims of the 100 GL rechromed.

Triple plated, proper job etc.

Recommendations?

I have heard good things about a company called "Derby Plating", apparently not cheap, but excellent quality triple plating, that lasts.

I don't have any connection by the way, just heard about them on a forum.

If you want a finish that lasts more than a winter, Derby plating are the best people to go to. Not cheap though.............

Wahey! Took the Pisser to Central VW/Audi in Ellesmere Port this morning and they have replaced the turbo boost valve 'thing' and it's going like a good un now. Went for a quick walk round the town that time forgot, passed a part worn tyre depot, noticed some second hand VW wheel trims in the window and scored the set for a ten spot.

Not much left to do now: try and find an electric door mirror switch for it, clean out the battery tray (when blocked it causes water ingress into the rear footwells) and dry out said rear footwell.

3B Passat ? Pollen filter housing....?

On the topic of bumpers, I noticed that a set of bumpers the same as my car's sold on eBay for £86. £86! Now, I like my bumpers but that could nicely offset repairing the hole in the floor and the knocking driveshaft...

5B or something like that?

Already replaced the pollen filter and re-sealed the housing (and some other things too) and the lad at Central has told me how to clear the other problem.

You can also remove the rubber one way valve at the bottom of the housing to stop it filling up again.

I am now officially on my Christmas Holidays. No more work till January 4th 2011. This means I can now work on my van whilst listening to 6music

I did a load of work on my Landcrab yesterday. 2 new driveshaft couplings, new front tyres, new indicator stalk, adjust rear brakes, top up all fluids, and WD-40 the seatbelt inertia reel mechanisms!!! Now it drives absolutely lovely, better than its ever done in my ownership. Got it in for a test on Sat morning!

The Volvo refused to start today, for the first time in 7 1/2 years of ownership. Preliminary thoughts are that the fuel pump has packed up, as there's no fuel getting through to the carbs but when I pull the petrol pipe off the carbs and suck I get a gobful of petrol. Going to try running it from a jerrycan as soon as I can dig out a bit of 8mm hose long enough to reach from can to pump - this should confirm whether the pump is borked or not. New pumps are available on the Bay for £30 all in, or I might just nick the Facet pump from the Skoda as a temporary fix and put the Skoda back on its mechanical pump.

In other news, my jump pack now appears to be terminally shagged - it's still showing 12.85 volts across the terminals, but it won't power anything - not even a phone charger - and it won't charge up either. Still, it was only a cheap one and I have had it for quite a while.

Yesterday my scruffy shite old Transit ALMOST passed an MOT :D

Considering what it owes me, and the abuse it has had from me and several previous careless owners I was expecting a few fail sheets, but it only failed on a leaking vacuum pipe on the servo :D:D

Oh and the utterly threadbare fanbelt finally gave up and wrapped itself around the fan on the way home - and the MOT centre is only 750 yards from home.

Some weekend snowcovered bodging is on the cards I feel :-)

Ah, thanks. The lad at the garage did say something about now you mention it. Take it it's easy to find? Cheers.

Car radio news

I'm not really one for ICE

Porsche with failed 80's Pioneer,

Scirocco with nothing,

& Camper with nice Blaupunkt and intermittent speakers

Nipped to Halfords bought half price Sony for Porker - works nicely, but what to do with the Porsche cassette holder?

Mrs barefoot sent me back to buy DVD player for van - amazingly complex - a fan? All speakers now working.

& Blaupunkt transplanted into Scirocco - curiously it's only got rear speakers, but they sound really nice.

This is what you did to clean the plenum drains yes?

http://www.weirdlittlebiscuit.com/passat/leak/

In this picture the rubbeer drain should have two lips in the middle to act aas a one way valve, the mod is to remove these by cutting out the middle of the drain or leave them out entirely.

Easiest way to dry the footwell is to remove passenger seat and a load of newspaper under a concrete block in the footwell for 24hrs followed by a fan heater (at your own risk  ).

Glad a new n75 sorted your Turbo issues.

Nice one Akron, thanks.

I have a valeting machine which I usually use to suck up the water with, so will get that on it as it did the other side superbly. I did use Morrison's vaccum cleaner recently to get a fair bit up but until I sort out the draining issues it's a bit like painting the Forth road bridge.

Cheers,

Thanks, yes the Oxford. I've been cracking on with it again. Trying to visit it at least once a week.

I'm well impressed with all these wintery doings. Much respect!

I looked at the car today and thought about washing it. More on that story sometime next year
