Modified Mk1 Fiesta

I built this car about 5 years ago.

Started with a standard 1980 1.1L Fiesta:

It was original and generally in good condition, with 12 months MoT. The interior wasn't great:

I stuck it in my garage:

And after 12 months it looked like this:

Gulf look-a-like colours, lowered suspension, 13" Alleycats, XR2 front lights, BMW E36 side repeaters fixed in the front bumper, 4 x spotlights, XR2 arches, smoothed tailgate, chrome F O R D badge on tailgate....

I fitted bucket seats, a Mountney steering wheel, VDO dials from a Porsche 944 - rev counter, clock and volt meter....

Cool car, although the engine remained stock. I sold it to make space in my garage for a Honda S2000!

When I saw 'modified' I have to confess I expected something awful. Fair play to you that loks really good and a bit different too.

I believe this car is still about, owner is a regular on xrtwo.com forum even though I'm not. Looks like this nowadays

Yep, that's the same car - it's called Fiestank, I believe. The guy who bought the car from me made the changes. I've seen his updates on the forum - he doesn't speak highly of me! I'm not sure how well he looked after my creation.

 Not sure which I find worse.... The hairy legs and slippers or the green thing....

That looked pretty cool in the Gulf colours. Not over keen on the Camo paint / roofrack / OMG HOODRIDE etc look though.

Is that a rev counter built into the dashboard I see in the first interior shots? I can't imagine that is a standard 'L' feature.

looked the tits with the gulf bits, big fan of mk1 and 2 festa's 8)

yeh, liked it as it was....not so much now but it's still a nice car but then I am biased as I own a Supersport. :D

The pics in this thread have made me go:Cool! That looks gorgeous! (standard)Hmmm. That does look nice. (modified)(I'm not commenting on every photo...)Gah! Knees!!Oh dear. Now that's gone too far. (cammo)

I think if I'd prepared that car and saw how it had ended up - I'd not be happy

My knees look better in real life. Sorry about the slippers. The clocks were non-standard - well noticed! I think they were XR2 clocks.I saw the car not long after I sold it. The new owner removed the spotlights and bucket seats and fitted grey XR2 front and rear seats. The car went downhill from there.

Oh dear. Downward spiral......

I am not the only one that thinks this was more than fine. I am aware of the 'your car your way' statement, but the point about stock old cars is they are unique as they are, having survived 20+ years as is, and that very fact they are generally a rare sight on the road. If you want to mess something about, would it not be best to start with something that was not a good example and a test failure? OK the interior was a bit shagged, but that's an easy fix.

i think most old skool cars can just get away with wheels/coilovers easy reversible mods 8)

Polo is just gorgeous.....Who wouldn't like to own that!

what i mean is, most cars dont need the lexus lights, latest max power spoilers, 2 simple mods can transform a car from sin to win in a moment

Exactly what i thought DW. Must admit i prefer it standard but the modifications are pretty tasteful - i like the smooth bootlid a lot. Reckon you've got to be a bit of a mong to camo/roofrack/rat such a nice looking car. and that Polo is really, really lovely!

I was the same as DW, Looks nice standard, This photo looked great!

Posted Image

then it went down hill! (Sorry Peter!)

I wasn't keen on the interior and the Badges looked a bit tacky above the radio and on the boot but on the other hand it was a lot better then the OMG I'M SO KOOL NATO GREEN the new owner has done.

Under normal circumstances, I'd be RIPPING MY OWN EYES OUT. But, I see what you mean.... there's something strangely pleasing about that car.

I think the Fiesta looks better with the Gulf stripe and alloys than it ever could standard. The lil' Polo is also very nicely done.

To me, a standard 950 Fiesta is a thing of maximum dullness. With the stripe, arches, wheels and bit of tweakage I like it.

The mods give it a bit of style that otherwise it would never, ever have.

I did something similar to a Fiesta back in the early 90s.

(Ebay school of photography)

Basic 1117cc Fiesta, factory black, fitted it with absolutely everything I could find from Ghias and XR2s in scrapyards. Glass, interior, dash, suspension, brakes, anti roll bars, gear linkage.. the lot. The wheels were cheap 100+ jobs, but I still think it looked good.

Did it again with a 35k mile 1300 Ghia, that got XR2 suspension, wheels and arches and a tweaked 1760 x-flow lump.

That's nice, but isn't that just retro fitting options? All of that could have been paid for from Ford, you just did it a few years later.

Posted

Yeah, other than the wheels, they were all genuine Ford bits, but that's the way I roll :)I've got the weird 'OEM' virus. I'll always look and see what could be pinched from other models first, but I still like to see what other people come up with doing it their way.Personally, I'd have gone down the XR2 trim route for the Gulf'd up Fizzy as I despise 'racing' seats and harnesses in road cars.

Agreed.Whilst the seats looked good and were purchased (new) for less than £100, they were not particularly comfortable.

Probably a lot harder to get a mint XR2 trim now than when my lil Fizzy was put together. I think the whole interior including dash was less than £150. The full set of tinted windows was about £60.

Should've gone to SPECSAVERS!

You're new around here, aren't you?

P.S. The whole CAPITALS thing makes you come across like this unfunny shouty little bald tw@. :)

iT'S EASIER THAN HITTING THE ITALICS FOR EMPHASIS, YOU SEE.

Although I occasionally forget to switch off caps, and type a whole sentence like just then.

Won't the rozzers tug that Polo for too much tyre or not enough arch. I've just lost a windscreen to a parped up Civic with about an inch of rubber sticking out from each arch.Looks OK though
