CreepingJesus Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 Hunter green, I reckon. Just personally, on the basis that the light purple and the red look too...visually light? If you see what I mean. The green's more 'solid' looking on that shape. It's deeper. I think for a lighter colour it would have to be really eye poppingly over the top.

jonathan_dyane Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 I like the green but your car your rules.
danthecapriman Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 Both nice colours, but I’d go for the green personally.
GMcD Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 Green. Red is lovely, but I think it's done too much.Â
PhilA Posted October 14, 2022 Author Posted October 14, 2022 Change of pace again. Back to the sheet metal. The ribs aren't in the correct place to line up with the factory ones (pattern part surprise). So, carefully aligned up underneath to the strengthening ribs, measured and the centers marked. Ran out of time (go figure). Tempting to make a metal stamp and die, or have one made. Likelihood of that: slim Asimo, Rust Collector, danthecapriman and 1 other 4

Likelihood of that: slim Surely the approved 'Shite method of repair is to pop rivet the side of an old chest freezer over the hole, a quick slap of "middle aisle"paint, and then a piece of old Lino glued on top for added structural rigidity.........

If this car was body on frame, yes. However, it's monocoque and the boot floor is a required section of structure to create the box shape that supports the rear suspension mounts.
Stanky Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 Remove a household radiator temporarily, lay it flat on the driveway, lay the soon-to-be-boot-floor metal sheet on top then bray the fuck out of it with a hammer to form ribs and weld it into place. Ideally at 6am on a sunday morning. then refit the radiator in the house before anyone notices* rainagain, Supernaut, horriblemercedes and 13 others 1 1 14

Side topic, making inquiries to get the correct hardware for the propshaft.
PhilA Posted November 1, 2022 Author Posted November 1, 2022 Just ordered just enough to assemble the propshaft. If the transmission does transmission things, I can order the rest. Fumbler, timolloyd, JMotor and 7 others 10
PhilA Posted November 1, 2022 Author Posted November 1, 2022 I like the ease of access. Spatchcocked a few bits together. Throttle pedal now works inside the car (wrong carburetor, so hacking it needs to happen). Also polished some horsepower back into the engine. hairnet, cort1977, juular and 23 others 26
PhilA Posted November 3, 2022 Author Posted November 3, 2022 Polished the driver's side headlight bezel up. Hard work to even get a shine on, anodized aluminum. You see the transition between the bezel and the grille there, the grille is going to be real fun to put a shine on.  Bought a new pair of exhaust manifolds too. They should be in next week. GMcD, CGSB, Stanky and 12 others 15
PhilA Posted November 8, 2022 Author Posted November 8, 2022 Difficult to see but I made the L shaped bracket that holds the gearshift linkage to the transmission. It should have a nylon bush in, for now it's just a hole in the metal to support it. Most importantly though, shifting with the lever on the steering column operates the selector arm on the transmission now. danthecapriman, CreepingJesus, Stanky and 5 others 8
PhilA Posted November 8, 2022 Author Posted November 8, 2022 Not quite. The uj I bought was the wrong one. So, hammered the old one out this morning, going to try get the correct one. GrumpiusMaximus 1
PhilA Posted November 9, 2022 Author Posted November 9, 2022 Bought the correct uj spider but the mail arrived and it contained shiny things. I like shiny things. Rust Collector, CGSB, somewhatfoolish and 14 others 17
sutty2006 Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 Loving the progress on this. As for colour, I think a dark blue would look neat. With black wheels/chrome hub caps. But that’s just the inner yank in me. My mates just sold his 60s Lincoln continental convertible and it’s dark blue colour looked really good on it. PhilA 1

PhilA Posted November 10, 2022 Author Posted November 10, 2022 Battery tray temped up. Transmission cooler lines in, that was a fight. Next up, see if it runs again. somewhatfoolish, RayMK, LightBulbFun and 5 others 8
