unfortunately, i don't want to spend £50,000 on a car

i've figured out how to sort the auto wipers

firstly, deep clean the windscreen and blades

then apply a very light coating of rainx to the windscreen taking extra time around the rain sensor

they're useable now, been raining the past few days and they've been fine, little sensitive at times but work fine and are useable

Considering they're probably 20+ year old tech at this point, they're not bad auto wipers on the C5, usually only had problems with that misty rain where they would go full on fast wipe, being too fast for the level of rain but otherwise pretty good.

that's what i need to always remind myself with this car

it's pretty much 20 years old (19 this year)

it just doesn't feel it, at all, if i didn't know any better i'd say it was 5 or 6 years old, especially with the way it drives

i dare say in some ways it's too good for it's own good........

just come back from a drive out in the countryside this morning

what a lovely handling car, yes i was pushing it a little more than usual and it handles suprisingly good

again, seemingly as always, nothing to report

done 8k miles since i got the gearbox sorted, and it's fine....sure it sometimes shifts terribly but that's what the AL4 is like

big day on monday, with all the belts getting done etc should be good

it's lasted long enough for me to have to tax it again haha!

in just over 2 weeks i've owned this fine vehicle for a year, a very interesting year

will be good for a few more years now

£46 / hour labour!? Bloody hell that's cheap even exc VAT. 

At least £60/hour my way, and most independent places are creeping upto £65-70/hour + VAT!

I don't believe it's related to the belt change, coincidence most likely....can't see anything they could have done to stop it working

The car is 19 years old so some things like this will pop up from time to time no matter what country it comes from. But I like what you do with this one because if you have a good car and you like it, it's worth it to spend money on it and keep it going. It is also more economical in the long run.

it's worth even penny in my eyes, this is likely going to be my last "main car" from that era so i want the best i can possibly have

upon lexia'ing i happened to notice this

well, there we go, seems a likely enough bet that would cause the issue

under the bonnet we go then, yep theres the little thing

felt a bit loose too

so, i decided to remove it and have a nosy

ah, yes, i can see that being an issue

absolutely filthy

some kitchen roll, WD40 and a bit of rubbing got it from that, to this

putting it back in, taking care not to go too far and letting it hit the pulley which would be bad times

good news! it runs fine!

no warning lights, revs up fine with a little noise from the new belt but that's to be expected

now the big thing......does cruise work?

please excuse the dusty dash, i need to clean the inside of the car soon

glad it was an easy fix

Would your lexis read my obd2 Xsara? If we ever end up in a random field together I might ask for a scan... See if it even sees the locking ecu, or the entire bsi etc 😂
