Actually, the one girl on my course with a kid is probably the most well adjusted and least cretinous of the lot.

One swallow doesn't make a Summer.

If she was willing to swallow maybe she wouldn't have a kid.

We had folk like that on my course. Naturally, every one of us were "the designers of the future". We were each destined for great things; those of us who weren't swept up by Pininfarina or IDEA would probably end up running a Think Tank in California or Seoul. As long as we kept churning out ever more swanky renderings with ever increasing levels of swooshiness, we were sure of a career wearing turtlenecks and flying business class between product consultation clinics.

Which is why I'm now a Service Advisor at a Merc dealership.

Departed a few days back for a three week stint working away oop north from my London abode.

Peasant Pug parked on the street, across from the flat so that my housemates can see if anyone slashes the tyres / bricks the windscreen / sets it on fire while I'm away.

Receive e-mail from them this afternoon, stating that this sign has just been erected by Brent Council.

IMG-20121007-00332-Copy.jpg

I'm parked in the third bay. I won't be back home till the 23rd of October.

Bugger.

Entirely predictable.

I call housemate last Wednesday who agrees to move it to the other side of the street. Therefore, I don't call council, as the matter's in hand.

Check Saturday past - They haven't moved it (boxed in by two big cars), but will do so Sunday.

Just had an e-mail to say that it was still boxed in, so they didn't move it Sunday night, instead electing to get up this morning and do it.

Too late when they went to do it; the council have lifted the car, and it's in the pound.

At £200 release fee, plus £55 FPN, plus £40 per day storage = £755 to retrieve £350 of Pug 205 when I get back home next Wednesday.

Fucking great. :evil::evil::evil:

Go on Pepipoo.co.uk and do a post with all your info - the guys there have a very good track record of getting council towing fees refunded for people - That suspension sign looks dodgy for a start. It'll take a while though.

What utter wankers. Why couldn't they just move it to a nearby street instead?

To be fair to the council, they needed it moving and Largactil's mates didn't seem to be overburdened with urgency...

Come on, the fact that they needed it moving doesn't mean that they have to treat it in the same way they would if it had been abandoned in the middle of Downing Street.

That's really shitty but to be fair it's your mate's fault for saying he would move it and then not bothering. If he had said no you could have (and I'm sure you would have) contacted the council yourself as I mentioned before.

Cynical but I've learnt in life to not rely on people, even mates too much.

Remember Alan Partridges rules for life:

1. Have a cup of coffee in the morning.

2. Floss.

3. Never trust anybody.

Council moves car to nearby street

Car gets hit/ stolen/ broken into

Council gets blamed for leaving it somewhere unsecured

Council are wankers

They can't win...with respect to Largactil (and appreciating the fix he's in being so far away), they seem to have given residents plenty of warning to shift their cars.

So, friends will be getting asked to pay this then seeing as it's their fault? (while meanwhile you try and squirm out of it using the ol' pepsidoodle or whatever it is).

On the other hand, if he was away and couldn't read the sign then how could he comply with it?

TBH if it cost £20 for the 5 minutes it would take for someone to lift and move the car then it would be annoying but fair enough, bad luck for it happening while you were away for a period of time. The fact it costs £755 is taking the massive piss.

There was a story in the papers a few years ago about a woman who had returned from holiday to find that the council had lifted her car, painted double yellows under it, put it back down and ticketed it.

The steam coming from my ears has finally subsided... :)

Anyway, I've had a chance to call the pound (it's open till 10pm) and speak to someone with a little sense.

If I collect within 10 days of the tow, it's the £200 tow-fee, plus the £55 ticket. I should make it. Just.

(No-one else can collect it, as I need to turn up with my V5, licence & proof of address).

Then I need a copy of my receipt, copy of my parking permit, a letter from my company stating that I was working away from the 1st of October and a covering letter.

If the wind's blowing the right direction / there's a 'T' in the month, I should get a refund.

It's part & parcel of the joys of parking in Zone 2 in London - I'm not blaming the council really - They gave 9-10 days notice. My work situation is unique, and I can't expect them to account for it.

As for the housemate - It's a 'she'...Initially I was massively pissed off with her, but now I've had a chance to cool down, I've mellowed.

Every time she's been in the car, I've joked about the on/off switch which is the clutch.

The car was apparently wedged in-between two nice new moderns, parked London-style, with 5mm to spare either side.

She's not insured to drive it, and was terrified that she might have nudged one of the other cars, due to the gippy clutch.

I wish she'd 'fessed up this last week, and I'd have contacted the council, but she was trying hard to not let me down and wanted to help.

It's bloody hard dealing with this sort of thing, when you're bobbing around in the middle of the North sea...
