Ah, ok. I seem to remember that there is some pinch bolt fun* involved on the front knuckles of these.

Yep, quote includes all new bolts too. I get it's a shit job, not sure I want to spaff that amount on it tho.

How's the holiday going?

Yep, it's 2001

MIL isnt a faliure point if its a 2001 then? Pretty sure that was July 2003 onward. May want to get a 2nd opinion on that MOT...

That seems like a lot of wear for only 40,000 miles, although I know rubber components seem to have lives measured in months these days.

The new tre on my van replaced at last years mot failed the new mot this year.

That’s a good point, MIL shouldn’t be a failure on that age car. Seems to be pot luck if the tester knows that though as I’ve had a couple of garages fail my older cars on the check engine light.

Yeah, that’s understandable - was just wondering if it was worth a go on the driveway, if it’s likely to just get baled anyway. If those pinch bolts come out then it doesn’t look too awful to replace the arms.

I got back on Wednesday - holiday was good but I’m exhausted from constantly being with extended family and running after our kids… I’d say that going back to work was a break but it’s frantic there too currently!

Yep, came in July 2003 IIRC, which I pointed out. I've used this place for years, have always been straight with me.

Road tax and insurance coming up will take my recent spend on a 21 year old Impreza past £3k. It might be worth £5-6k on a good day.

I mean, I'm not going to do an overtake in the suicide lane slowly am I? 😂

To add insult to injury the car I passed turned off half a mile later..... 👈

Plus, I'm less than a month away from my last lot of points expiring so am gunna have to face the music as doubt I'll get away with an awareness course. 🤣

What a doofus.

£250 a month, you'd struggle to get a modern "appliance" on lease/pcp for that? And you'd have to give it back when it's sanitised your soul 👍

I think the word is deadened rather than sanitised.

Fucking hell. If it doesn't rain it pours.

Was just reversing into a parking space, was a bit narrow to the right. Car got a bit stuck, thought it was just a small bit of mud next to me that my wheel was trying to haul itself over, so just 'drove over it - I'm in an ALLROAD mutha fucka' but it turns out it wasn't my tyre trying to get over a bump it was by bumper stuck on a tiny wall. FFS. 😂

We were just pootling home from Western. Coming off the m6 through an amber light. Bobby pulls up beside me on the roundabout midway traffic light and says...

Red means stop.

I said, it's drum brakes

He said bad brakes.

I repeated I've got drum brakes. He huffed and went. Then he proceeded to cut the traffic up cos he was in the wrong lane.

This was all through open windows. And bear in mind I in a 42 year old bedford cf1 that doesn't have abs. Can't stop on a dime like modern cars. Doesn't slow down in 2ms. And has, yes, drum brakes.

Well I spent about the same about 7 years ago, but recent years have been fairly good, needing less than £1k to get it through the MOT. Insurance is <£300 because I’m so old, ( but not old enough to be a bad risk, maybe only 3-4 years left), road tax is now £420,  and a service at an independent is about £200.  Like anyone else, brake discs are so shite these days, I’d probably budget about £100 a year for those alone.
