The grumpy thread

^^^ Don't think she heated it enough to boil it, just 45 seconds or so to warm it up a bit... either way, that's not one for the cocktail book! Stomach was making threatening noises all night long and the taste of oranges haunted my dreams...

EDIT: this is the liqueur...

At least, I'm labouring under the understanding that this was a liqueur of some description... no doubt someone's gonna pop up and tell me it's actually that well-known brand, Happy Rabbit Nail Polish Remover... or some sort of Japanese Redex...

Can we have threads locked or offending posts deleted rather than the whole thread vanishing?

Personally I hadn't read anything in the Syria thread that I would regard as anti Jewish - which is why I'm assuming the thread got binned. If you can't criticise a nations actions (note nation, not people or their faith) nor point out things that nation has been allowed to do for fear of being called anti Semitic then we haven't come very far as a country in the UK have we?

There's a whole grump of it's own, right there. Knock the fences down and stop the needless cruelty to the horses.

Went out in the Volvo this morning, someone coming the opposite way on an otherwise deserted road kicked up a huge rock which landed right in the middle of the drivers side of my windscreen!

I actually saw it coming down it was that big. Huge chip and a crack in the screen now!

Why the fuck couldn’t it have landed in front or behind the car! Timed to perfection again.

Still, at least I wasn’t in the Mercury or anything as I’m sure glass for that would be much harder to get hold of. The Volvo shouldn’t be too hard.

I once had that as a 1/3rd of a brick sailed towards me Dan. It's an 'interesting' feeling watching it isn't it? I was lucky as it hit the wiper as I'm sure something that big would have got through at motorway speeds.

I fucking hate London. In some shitty bar under a bridge by a river. Counting down the seconds until the coach comes to collect us in an hour.

Not putting my name down next year, fuck this

I fucking hate London too, it's a fuckhole full of fucking cunts. Overpriced too, the rip off cunts.

It still causes arguments and offence to people though, and having read the thread this morning it was way beyond the dreadful use of weapons or whatever. Also, had you read the thread properly there was a lot of 'politics' involved.

Time after time we get this 'debate' and no, removing certain posts is NOT the answer as it just causes more arguments. The simplest way to avoid this sort of thing is to just not post anything at all like this, however well intentioned it may have started out as.

But we knew that already, didn't we?

I was in one of my old smiley Transits once and a tipper truck came the other way. All of a sudden I felt a blinding pain in my hand and a rattling sound in the bottom of the cab step.

I looked down and there was a big round lump of flint down there bouncing around. It flung off the tippers wheel, in through my open door window and hit me right on the finger! Didn’t half hurt!

Lucky the window was open or else it had have smashed it.

Flying stones on your kneecap hurt a touch when biking too, I'm glad that was a tiny one.

Mrs Madrat once had a metal pipe fly off a skip lorry in front of her and hit the windscreen at face height, luckily it his side on and not edge on or she might not have been around to tell.

Sounds like a Flaming Moe.

Tasted like a flaming disaster. And still I persisted, even adding ginger ale to see if that made it more palatable (verdict: no).

Should have added cough syrup instead...

?

Wasn't anything to do with that. It had moved onto politics and with people calling each other cunts. No politics is the rule. Hence if it is politics it gets removed - plenty of other places to debate that.

If it is locked and left I will bet you a brown trout or two there will be another thread created critiquing what was said with people either being massively offended or pointing out it doesn't offend them.

So simply if it is politics it is removed. Same with religion or porn.

So I was wrong to start the thread? We've had general election and Scottish independence referendum threads before and nobody got killed. I honestly thought it was a relevant topic for discussion?

So no politics, porn, religion or drone threads?

And I'm not trying to be inflammatory!

Isn't it better to go down the debate rather than delete route? That way if a member has made a massive whang of themselves it's there in perpetuity as a monument to their glorious ineptitude.

Both the general election and Scottish independence ones got binned as they started out well but soon ended up with personal attacks. I learnt a lot before it got horrible, but ultimately it became a slagging match.

When it becomes "your a cunt and you always say that" and " I don't vote X because y and therefore you are all wrong" that's over the line.

It took 8 posts before it became political.

Rather than having to referee the debate which ends up annoying everyone it is easier to focus on old cars and leave the politics elsewhere.

And in answer to your question about whether it is better to leave it as a debate - the straight answer is No.

History has shown us that these ends normally end badly and with people falling out.

It's a car forum, for cars. The open forum is good for shitey related things such as shed building, homebrew etc.

Politics can be done elsewhere.

The sad thing is that people are falling out over things they have seen in the news which as we all know is 'based on a true story' and not 100% representative of what has happened.

I would be happy to see a debate based on facts but very few people actually know what the facts are so it's hardly worth falling out over.

To the best of my knowledge I've never called another member a c**t on here either on the main forum or via personal message, I've got a surprisingly high bell end threshold and even if I totally disagree with someone else's point of view I'm happy to respect that we're all different people and have a right to our individual opinions. Sadly when even a vanilla topic like the drone thread quickly escalated into being thrown in the back of the Autoshite Sherpa dropside pick up (B Series Diesel) and taken into Room 101 then maybe just taking the whole section over the weighbridge is the way forward? The modern section of the forum has been even less confrontational than even the main board and I can't remember a single hissy fit or dummy spitting incident since it started so it is possible for us to behave like grown adults.

Sorry on the drone thread I think that was me calling someone a cunt for stealing a drone that landed in their garden. Seem to remember they (can't remember who) thought it was a reasonable thing to do.

As for the other stuff we know we can't talk about religion and politics without and argument. I don't know why as really it should be able to be debated the same as anything else but for some reason it isn't.

Autoshite is far from needing safe spaces or just shouting that everyone's a fascist if they don't agree but really if we know a subject is likely to start an argument, for an easy life, just don't post about it. We've got so many other interesting and weird stuff we could be on about :-)

Two months ago I replaced the rear wheel bearing on the wife's Focus-it's a bit like a stub axle-held on by 4 bolts. Took it from South Wales to Heathrow two weeks ago and the f******** thing started to drone on the way-getting worse . Parked up at hotel and left for holiday. Came back at 9.00am this morning jumped in reversed it out and what a clatter-absolutely kaput. Phoned Caravan Club Mayday-Green Flag and they were there within 20 mins. Mechanic verified knackered bearing.

Got on his phone-Green Flag use contractors (I assume Barry C will know if this is correct). So we sat anticipating a 150 mile recovery. Bloke from contractors phoned saying they would replace the bearing-I queried how much-free he said. 1.5 hours later on the way home!

I assume they bill Green Flag for a 300 mile total recovery and make a lot more by replacing the bearing.

But I must say-absolutely fantastic service!!

I had emailed my brother to get me one which he had-but much better to get the car fixed there. I didn't really fancy doing it after travelling for 20 hours!

Will now take the two month old bearing back to the autofactors.

You cant beat Green flag (Mayday)

When we broke down a few years ago on M5 towing caravan from Cornwall on the first day of school holidays, coming home not going, they got us a curtsy car to tow the van home with, my car was back the next day.
