Acceleration was enough in 1st to just be on the edge where the Proxies wanted to break free in the wet. 

More acceleration needed.

Underneath this is pretty much rust free though. Usually bent sill jacking point (only on one side) and that's about it. 

For an extra £250 you've got this one with no rust issues though.

I think they get to the point where they're unbearably noisy and replaced because of that. I've only seen one so called reported failure online but that looked more like the cambelt actually going from age. 

Dephasers aren't cheap to replace though compared to the rest of the parts. Also this one would always be a bit scruffy. I am tempted to lob it at a SMART repair type place and see what it would take to smarten up the paint work. Alloys probably find there are enough others around second hand to potentially replace with nicer ones.

Also, central locking doesn't work on the remote. Apparently working two weeks ago but not now. 

Button inside works. He tried the resync procedure too. 

Ideas? I know the keys can be troublesome but I thought it was mostly the buttons. Unfortunately I only have one key at the moment, so a bit wary about opening it up just incase if fails completely. Iirc no glass chip on these, just all on a PCB?

You'll not have time for paint because you'll be having too much fun GLF.

Don't use the C/L would be my advice as it arms the incredibly flaky alarm (mine was anyway). These were hastily added at the docks when the cars reached the UK to allow the car to squeak into a lower insurance group.

Button on the dash, get out, lock door! (Or walk round to the passenger door if the driver's one was seized ahem!)

What sort of peasant do you think I am?! ?

Alarm is on a separate activation fob. Said alarm may unexpectedly no longer be connected soon. 

Being a 2002, thankfully it has a key on the driver's door. 2003 on Renault did a Reno and cheaped out by having door locks on the passenger side worldwide.

Central locking is a must, the only time I had a failure to proceed was due to the immobilizer throwing a hissy fit. To resync it required the ignition on and hit the central locking a couple of times.

Only cost me £80 for the recovery truck to come out and show me!! Ffs

Ah, welcome to the fold! Should we start a communal thread self help group  on here?

If you need used parts then my tame Clio botherer up here is a good lad. 

Clio rear calipers are one of the reasons a Kangoo made a lot of sense to me-big assed drums on the back and the brakes feel excellent on mine!

Regarding dephasers, I've got the one out of my van-it was clearly changed when the van was built but as I'd no history I've changed it anyway. 

There's a set of timing tools here too if you want to tackle the belt yourself. Do you know when it was last done?

I had to do the immobilizer resync thing the day after bringing the van home, damn think wouldn't start so i could get it off the trailer!

Aux belt was replaced when he got it as that's what failed when it was a customers and they got rid. He said he did the belt around the same time (3 to 4 years ago) but didn't do the dephaser as it was still in spec. Parts through the company account, so no receipt but he will check his toolbox at work. He seemed a decent chap and I feel inclined to believe him. Enough that I will probably run it for a year as is before considering whether to get the belts done. Also if my local garage is prepared to do it, it may be sooner as they're reasonably priced (50 quid an hour with VAT) and I can just drop it off in the morning, go to work and then drive it home in the evening. 

What's the book time for a cambelt on these?

I will say, if I find a really nice 182 in black, yellow or racing blue, I'd probably sell this to get it. I imagine that I'd probably not struggle to sell this on for roughly what I paid, despite the mileage on it and slightly scruffy body. This was the selling point to Mrs SiC on this slightly scruffy one. 

Or get a nice Trophy as a summer toy and use this as the runaround. 

Quite tempted to find out how much a SMART dent repair type place would charge to sort the scuffs out. Might not be too bad?

Aux belt is the important one as if it snaps it usually takes out the timing belt with inevitable results.

Belt interval is about 5 years but the aux belt is 3 years, sometimes less. Mine had been replaced with the timing belt in 2017 but was ready to snap by March so had it replaced.

Drive and enjoy I say!

I may have another non rusty one as they do get under your skin.

Yeah, get some miles on this one and fettle it before you decide if you want another one. 
Tame Clio botherer has just got this, it's not for sale though. Yet...

That one is actually pretty rough, or was when i last saw it. He's made it look better in those pics though.  So while it'll be cheap for a trophy it'll be expensive for a 182. 

Not sure i'd be that fussed about a Trophy for the premium they command, I'd rather have an imperfect but honest one just like yours and tweak it/enjoy it.

Trophy seats are lovely though

My sister has my megane just now as her car broke down at mine . I’ve now fixed her car but given the state of it I hope my megane come back with all the paint it left with .

I believe the Recaro was a cost-option on some Clio models too.

If I'm getting a forever car that pays homage some what to my first car, I might as well get the best. Also you just know they'll likely be worth silly money in the future and highly coveted. Like the R5 GT Turbo, 205 GTi, etc. Fast Clio II have had nearly 2 decades of followers from those just passed their test to a bit older.

Drove back great. Forgotten/didn't remember how low rent the interior is. Rattles from drivers door and dash creaks.

Idle rough but iirc that's normal.

Seat is worn and a bit flat after 150k. Wear wise actually not too bad imo.

Missing a few bungs underneath which is letting water into the back seat carpets. Need to fix this as no doubt will make it smell minging and potentially mouldy if left.

Now need to get the pressure washer out and clean.

Oh and tried the resync thing on the lock but it didn't do the lock/unlock sequence. :(
Also tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. Again no difference. Wonder if the aftermarket alarm is causing it not to allow to sync too.

Mine was in fine fettle mechanically so here is a video of it idling for reference.

The steeply profiled cams mean that the idle will be a little uneven but if it's markedly so if could just be the plugs. They are apparently very fussy about them and only one brand will do, helpfully I have forgotten what that was. I gave my spare set away with the car.
