then needed to widen the mounting holes - I don't know what the bracket is made of but it twatted my cone drill :(

finished off with a hand file and got the little sods to fit

the paint on the clips and the handle is still wet, I'll bung them on tomorrow

very much appreciated, thank you.

as the day approaches when this will move under its own steam, I can't help thinking "what will I do when it is finished ?" but of course, it will never really be finished :)

it still needs a fair bit more fettling to pass the IVA then I'll see what it's like to drive,

then I'll start looking into some sort of Booooost

a very important parcel arrived today

IMG_4034.thumb.JPG.31d7ff18847a6d0afdc2bd48c193315f.JPG

which contained these

IMG_4035.thumb.JPG.41f1cd2aa91a1d04acb40e5c810394d8.JPG

which fitted here

IMG_4039.thumb.JPG.7449fc97cb903bd33f7f02dd82145010.JPG

so I gave these a clean (couldn't find any wheel cleaner, this seemed to do much the same thing)

IMG_4045.thumb.JPG.fbc77beecc99845758cc3fcf0ae27e04.JPG

and bolted them on

IMG_4041.thumb.JPG.e9a251a12f4a64e8f1638f41313e7b06.JPG

then took it off the 'stands'

IMG_4050.thumb.JPG.69deeb5c51a7a7d90cc724e0c647c1f9.JPG

ooh, that's very low

IMG_4064.thumb.JPG.09f4ec99bd5ede4665256d2ef3815cc0.JPG

how low ? yes, very

IMG_4065.thumb.JPG.b16a5b0e77c6549fc6e15dceb1c6fde7.JPG

I hope it won't be a problem getting it off the drive...

earlier on, I'd bled up the clutch and brakes

IMG_4047.thumb.JPG.5d8b1c800dd94b80e50ef39fc02be0d2.JPG

so once the wheels were on, I cable tied my inspection light to the top of the radiator

  • gm changed the title to gm's unhealthy obsession with mx5s - SIGNIFICANT UPDATE TO PROJECT EXO - WITH VIDEO :)

Woo happy to see the first drives :) (wonder what the neighbours/other drivers on the road thought LOL)

its amazing how quickly you have progressed with it, wont be long until your hurtling around a track in it!

as I think I said before, keep up the good work :)

When I built my Robinhood we built it at my mates house whose house was on a small road which formed a loop which connected which an orbital road all road the estate, a number of times we got very strange looks doing test drives with just a bare shell.  Our was similar ground clearance, what posed a particular problem was single track roads which had a ridge in the middle, ended up having to get the sump shortened after wearing a hole in it..

Looks brilliant, good work!

thanks, there's still a load to do but it's a great feeling to have that first drive :)

it's currently sitting on the suspension that I stole off the other mx5 - kyb shocks and eibach lowering springs - which I will upgrade to something adjustable if it proves to be too low. It did scrape on the the drive when I put it back in the garage, not sure if it was the exhaust or the seat bolts that hang down below the floor, but I'll need to be careful.

I'm not a fan of engine flush but this one might need it (the donner was off the road for six months before I bought it and I've had it in bits for the same)

car picks up well  :) watch out for that fiesta !
