Only people who made mats for the Saf was Renault themselves. On the odd occasion you'll see a set turn up on ebay but it's rare.

I guess you could but the carpet bit would be missing. The original Renault ones also have some unique twistlok fittings that allow them to attach to the carpet without slipping.

I've made a decision. Probably a bad one.

I'm giving the Honda a chance, I'm taking a gamble.

The battery is dying, so it needs a new one just to get it to the garage for MOT. The garage want to MOT, before they fix anything, but I need to order the rear top mount, before it gets to the garage. So I have to spend some cash, without knowing what else may be wrong.

This is of course bloody stupid. But I can't bring myself to weigh it in, without giving it a chance.

I know the 4wd doesn't work, but thats not MOT issue, nor is the high clutch.

Can I present for MOT with the top box on?

Its on the Honda cause I've nowhere to store it.

Does the battery not hold any charge at all? I'm pretty sure most test stations are used to jumping cars with weak batteries where they go flat being left with the lights on for a bit an auto in neutral etc

A bit. Its reluctant. I'm starting it twice a day and running it for 10mins.

The colder it gets the more reluctant it is. It was reluctant last winter. I knew it was on borrowed time.

I'm hoping it makes it till Thursday, but I'm prepared to chuck a new one if I have too.

A bit of wire waggling, swearing and general threatening behaviour, has persuaded the old girl to turn the side light on. She may want to live.

Hope it lasts till the test (or retest) is complete.

I'm glad, because when the n/s main beam didn't work for a previous MOT, the auto electrician did some creative wiring.

All I'm saying is I wouldn't personally worry too much about sorting it before the MOT unless it literally holds zero charge

Yeah I'd keep the spend to an absolute minimum till you know there is a pass able to be got. Otherwise if there was a lot of rot you didn't know about then the spend to fix that may sway your decision.

Sorry to hear that your wife is not well. Giver her our best wishes and hope she gets better soon. Best of luck with the CRV. It's a tough decision. Do you stick with the devil you know, or risk buying an unknown, with all the grief that can follow.

I looked around and bar the Vectra on here, didn't really see anything I wanted to spend money on. 

You are right, its the unknowns and potential grief, that gives me the fear.

With a lot of newer cars, it seems the electrics that let them down. All the sensors and gizmos they have on them nowadays. To me, the sweet spot seems to be around the turn of century. Enough safety features to keep you safe, air bags, crumple zones, traction control, but not so much of the emission controls that now give everyone so much shit. dpf filters and such. Modern cars, especially those with LED lights, well, it just gets silly. In mine, if a bulb goes, it's about £7-£15 for a headlight bulb and a couple of quid for a sidelight or brake light. New are, you can be looking at hundreds! [And don't try to tell me that LED lights don't fail!]

As I (perhaps wrongly) think clean cars get a slightly easier time in an MOT test, the CRV got polished.

Well half of it, cause then it started pissing down.

And the rest...New headlight for a bunch of VW stuff is well into four figures.  Of course also needs to be coded to the car, because of course it does.

Friend of the family hit a pheasant a few years ago in their Passat - the repair bill was nearly five grand.  Headlight, foglight, wing & paint.

I recently paid a bill for ten times the purchase price of my Scirocco. Was it worth it?

Who  knows, it's cracking fun to drive around corners and it'll be historic in about ten minutes time. What's a chap to do?

No wonder they are finding cars stolen, then stripped for parts! 'Pair of front lights, front wings, grill and a bonnet sir? That'll be a grand. What colour would sir like? Would you like the radiator as well for another hundred?' Next day at work. 'Some bastard stole my car, it was the same as yours, same colour as well! Bastards!'

Well the strut mount arrived in time for the garage appointment on Thursday.

Finest Chinese, with German sounding brand name.

The BFG is grumpy, as the Honda has been getting all the attention.

PDC failure. I believe front right if the warning lights are clues.

If I'm careful I think I can pry out the bumper inserts.

Of course I'm not careful, so will cost up a replacement insert first :)

Plug your scan tool in and see if there are any codes. Or live data on the parking module and see what the distance readings give.

An engine and 'box combo that'll be running about post-nuclear winter, along with XUDs, PDs and perhaps one or two of the better straight six BMW lumps.
