BFG attains a pass - Cookie's adventures in shiteing

That varies a lot on the engine last run, angle, etc, etc as it's the raw value rather than averaged over time.

There is a dipstick in the left hand compartment in the boot that I bought and put in there. Not the easiest to use. Has different measurements depending on the engine code. Should be a paper instruction book that lists what it should be. (Also maybe a red handled one, that's for the gearbox)

Tbh I'd probably just follow it's directions and dump a litre in if that's what it says.

So what you are saying is, the computer does not give accurate readings?

I will bung a litre in tomorrow and not worry. Plenty of shit in life to worry about at the mo.

You have kinda screwed me by selling me BFG. Mrs Cookie has decided that only Mercs are allowed to join the fleet from now on :)

Unless its an insignia, cause weirdly she thinks they are pretty !

From when I had it serviced and reading what others have said, it's most accurate if on a lift where it's nice and level just after a service!

I'd be just as wary about overfilling than having it under. Hence if it was still mine, I'd be just following the computers recommendations.

Well I've put just over half a litre in. Very wary of overfilling. No pics, because I obviously waited till it was dark !

Just need to convince myself that the computer is accurate. I'm sure it must be - not exactly lots of noise on the web about E class oil overfill issues.

Just off for a two hour round trip to Martock, to drop little Cookie off at her boyfriends.

If the engine doesn't grenade itself, will put the rest of the litre in tomorrow.

My old S211 freaked me out on the M3 with a big red warning about oil level, I missed the part where it said too high!

This has not filled me with confidence lol

Oil topped up. I took no pictures.

In prep for the winter, some cheap ebay rubber mats have been purchased. I didn't expect much, but they are surprisingly decent and the correct shape.

It will stop the carpet mats from getting grubby.

I'm pleased with them.

In other news, the mondeo left the fleet last month, to steve79.

Today the Honda CRV has started making a horrible loud banging noise from the rear nearside, over bumps. So worrying, I'm not driving it. Need to get it to friendly mechanic, for a trip on the lift. Sounds like a major breakage has occurred. Cant see anything obvious, when peering underneath.

That’s a bit of a shit with the CRV 🙁 but those mats look quite good for an eBay item. I keep trying to find something for the Safrane but because it was such a popular* car no one does fitted mats for it

I really dislike the beige interior in my S211, it never looks clean and shows its age particularly on the harder plastics. I much prefer the dark grey and Designo Sand in my old S211, just not looking forward to swapping it over!

Yeh I need a mechanic to get underneath to see if anything is broken - do you know one :)

Possibly. I got ramps too if that will help look underneath 🤪

The Honda CRV has been inspected.

The problem has been found.

The offside rear suspension

Looks Ok. Bit of rust but ok.

The nearside rear suspension.

Is that the top mount failed or the actual metal bodywork strut mount?

The bodywork the strut is bolted too.

I'm unsure what to do.

I will get it booked in for an inspection.

But I think the 4wd system has stopped working (that will be checked when its up on the 2 poster). Clutch is reaching end of life, its going to need welding and a shock, plus MOT is up in a month.

Sadly due to Mrs Cookies illness, I have to have a working car. Yes the merc works, but if it decided not too, I need a back up.

I've started to look around, to see what's available. Will decide  when the welder gives his verdict.

Although sadly that means I won't be buying the C180 for Little Cookie.

This is the thing with Honda's, they're incredibly reliable but nothing lasts forever. There is a point where everything is end of life and starts failing together. Honestly I think it might be time to scrap it by the sounds of it.

Looking at the photo grafting in a new section from another car looks to be the only route as it looks really crusty. For me, i'd be out.

Possibly.

Parrot the welder is genuinely one of the best welders in the UK, so he can probably build one.

But 1) I don't know how far the rot has spread

2) fabricating a new tower may take a lot of time and therefore cash.

So jury out till its inspected, but I'm heavily leaning to sending it to China, to become a fridge.

And I missed out on the 350 quid C180.

I was 2nd in the queue. I snoozed. I lost.

May have found one locally though.

Are you sure that corroded mounting isn't part of the shock absorber ?

Well now I'm not sure.

I'm off to try and see if the metalwork for the shock to bolt too, still exists. I think not, but would be bloody brilliant if it was.

Posted

Thanks @Joey spud

I think, stress think, that the actual bodywork it bolts too, might be ok.

I've dug around with a screwdriver and it didn't go through the metal (the bits I could reach).

Looks like the top of the shock has rusted and then exploded in a way that covered the good metal, with rusty shredded metal.

This CRV - may live, if the 4wd system is still 4 wheel driving. Will hopefully find out next week, if the garage can find 10 mins ramp time.

I will for now, ignore the end of life clutch :)

So I have to wait 3 weeks, till the garage can fit it in.

There plan is to bung it in for MOT, as is, then see what else might be wrong.

But I have to supply the top mount, so spending cash, before I know whats wrong with it.

Plus tonight, its lights have decided to play up again.

20241102_193330.thumb.jpg.e4135e2b341838b252e1fbf107768402.jpg

It seems to do this, every time its MOT is due - its not the bulb.

So another call out for the auto electrician.

Or not. I'm going to take @SiC advice. Time to say goodbye.

Scrap price has been quoted as 156 quid.

Quite surprised how low that is.

I'm off to Hexham tomorrow, so the Honda can sit and wait till I'm back.

Anyone want a large roof box? No room to store it and its currently on the roof of the Honda.

Have you tried Cartakeback?  They gave me £309 for my Touran, collected, a good £100 more than the others (Redcorn, Scrapmycar etc).

is the catalyst on these not worth £omg ?

Use to be.

Not sure now.

Previous owner supposedly had original cat fitted from Honda, when the first one got nicked.

I might have to get under it and try and find a part number.
