Here's a few of my spots in and around Southend, as usual there's plenty of stuff I've missed (being late, not being able to take pictures as the car surrounded by people, etc)

Tidy Favorit estate

Old Crapi, still on dealer numberplates, I followed this the other day and it is completely clapped, trailing blue smoke.

These two belong to fellow students at my college.

Fairly tidy MK2 Cavalier. 92k on the clock. This, the Micras and the MK2 Fiesta in the background were for sale. The Fester was 'Drive away, £325' but it was pretty scruffy.



This Mini arrived while I was there. Mint condition. 47k miles. I hope it isn't scrappage


And THAT Oxford again, parked next to my A35 while I was in the scrapyard. The yard is Kirbys Car Breakers, Rochford, Essex by the way. (01702 544829)

I noticed the tax disc was missing. What a shame, as it was absolutely mint - no evidence of welding, the front wings and scuttle were perfect, and I am not exaggerating - the interior was like new Luckily anything old/interesting/valuable at that yard gets kept until it's stripped down to a shell, so at least other Mini owners will benefit.I did wonder if the Micras were scrappage victims as well as they looked very tidy, although they were in the seperate section of the yard for cars for sale. His and hers maybe?

Definitely a four door Amazon. The beige metro looks really out of place parked next to a new golf outside a new-build cardboard box.

Yes, I can confirm that is a Volvo Amazon, in fact there is another one there next to it as well. Incredibly rusty.

 

Yes that is a Hillman Minx next to the Celica, although it is just a shell, and yes the curved roof is a SAAB 96

 

There is also the remains of a MK1 Consul, a Princess Wedge, Humber Sceptre Estate, another Hillman Minx, Opel Manta, some kind of rotton Lancia, a couple of TR7's, Stag/Beetle/Spitfire/P6, there was a Talbot Horizon there for a long time along with some other stuff I have forgotton. Most of the older stuff has been in the yard for years, as they only crush the shells when they're picked clean.

 

Definately worth a visit for any shiters in the area. It is one of the few scrapyards that actually let you wander around and take bits off the cars.

Lovely Lada. Check out the gaffer tape repair to the bonnet edge! The wiring was all hanging down behind the ignition as well, looked like someone had tried to steal it

That scrapyard has got a Talbot Alpine in, I wouldnt mind going down there and liberating the hatchback off it actually. I can see ity in one of the pics, amazing its stil there!

Yep there is (or was) a Talbot Alpine which has been in that part of the yard for years. They never crush the older cars so the chances are it is still there. I'll have to pop down there and take some more pictures as I haven't been for ages.

This was absolutely immaculate, not a speck of dirt or rust anywhere.

 

 

 

And this (spotted today) was nearly as immaculate as the Saab, 30,000 miles on the clock, was a real OMG moment in the Asda carpark.

That Solara looks totally saveable, and the beetle shell must be worth something to someone, looks virtually rust free.... that mk1 Ford shell would be a good base for a hotrod too.

I agree. The Solara was definately savable I thought. It was a bit scruffy, but some cock had smashed the windows on the drivers side so it was open to the elements. No doubt it's had its Certificate of Destruction issued though :(J-J - the CX is a fairly recent addition to the yard - I haven't seen it before. Most of the more obscure cars in the yard are very complete.

That Solara has indeed been deleted from DVLA records....Scrappage possibly? It wasn't the best example, but wasn't totally rotton either.Most of the older stuff in the yard such as the Humber Sceptre and Singer Gazelle have been in the yard for ages - 10 years or more.I think I might go back and rescue the handbook out of that Alpine
