outlaw118
T'was an old couple living there, didn't have a visit to them, so they must have been paying thier bills!! As jonny69 said, altogether likely that one of both have died, place may well be empty, or just one left, living in darkness. Looking at the cars again, not sure if they would be worth saving...? Angrydicky
The Skoda and Lada were well past restoration. The FSO may be savable, but it had a nasty rot hole under the back window and if the broken windows have let water in over time, there probably won't be a lot left of the underside or interior. The interior's probably really minging as well. The Datsun may be savable with some new front wings and bonnet, although I couldn't see the sills. If it was fairly low mileage when it was parked up (only nine years old) then it may not be too bad structurally. They would be seriously major projects though, and sadly I'd be surprised if anyone took them on.

EssDeeWon
Wow just stumbled over your Sarfend spots Dicky!! This photo is taken outside my nans old house 153 New Road, and where the Granada is parked is the exact spot my dads old 1979 Rover 2600 rotted away after it was written off in summer 1988 in Wakering High Street. I can just about remember going with him taking it to Shoebury car breakers once the write off went through. Spent many happy times over there as a kid before my nan sold up in 1995. Skoze
Looking forward to them! Where's that 240? I'm deeply in love with it.
Angrydicky
The 240 was Thundersley way Skoze. It was properly knackered! Here's a selection of fairly average spots, nothing spectacular. These are mainly from Canterbury and the surrounding area, with a couple from Southend. Avenger GT (Tiger rep) Viva HC. Beige. Can't even remember what this is, I did look it up but I've forgotten. Think it was ex Norn Iron. Abandoned behind a block of flats. Dyane still earning its keep with a window cleaner in Whitstable. MK1 Escort van with a rotten 70's Minivan behind it, I expect the owner gets his door knocked on a regular basis. Immaculate Mini in a delightful shade. Nicely shabby 2CV. This MK1 Espace is apparently owned by a 90 year old, who wants to keep it on the road but is struggling to find the parts. It was quite a shed, but I peeked in and noticed it had over 200k on the clock! Respect. And lastly a couple of pictures of the famous derelict Ford Anglia from The Fairway, Leigh on Sea. About January time I went past and noticed it had a for sale sign in the window! Obviously I went in for some closer photos. It was absolutely rotten, as you'd expect after standing on a driveway since 1986. Apparently the story was that the old boy was always convinced he'd restore it, and his daughter spent ten years persuading him to part with it. They eventually put it on Carandclassic, "sensible offers", and it was bought by a Ford breaker up North. The end of an era. Skizzer
Grand. That ex-Army thing has just joined the Starcraft on my list of camper van wants. Also, if all Minis looked like that Mini, I reckon we'd all like Minis.
EssDeeWon
Shame about the Anglia, on local plates too. I was on the fairway yesterday, I was obviously a few months too late to pap this rot box. That Espaz LOL!!
Angrydicky
Due to overwhelming* demand, have a bump for this thread with some recent crud. EssDeeWon has managed to find much of the local chod, but here's some stuff I don't think he's papped yet. These three were obviously owned by the same person. Not a great picture, but it's a derelict looking Imp. Went past today to try and get a better picture but it had gone, so I don't know what's happened to it. This old Lotus has been here a good few years. Just around the corner from where that old Anglia used to be. Don't normally photograph cars made after about 1991, but I thought this old Renault was worth a shot, mainly due to the paintwork. Immaculate 340 saloon in Leigh on Sea. Drove past some lockup garages today, and noticed that one of the doors was open, revealing the back end of what was unmistakeably a 70's or 80's hatchback. Obviously I went in for a closer look, hoping it was something truly awesome, like a Chrysler Alpine or Austin Ambassador, but it was sadly only a Scimitar. Still good to see though. Nice Dolomite, however the owner's a lot braver than I am leaving it without a steering lock in that area. Came across this very original Toyota Liteace this afternoon. Just after I took this shot the owner came out of his shop nearby to see what I was doing! Only the second time I've ever been caught while spotting. I think he was a bit bemused someone was interested in his old van, but he was happy to talk about it and said he'd owned it for 20 years. It still gets used regularly to collect stock and he said it's particularly useful for going to London, as it's a petrol and exempt from LEZ. The next few were spotted in Lincolnshire. Horrible kitcar of some sort. And how about this? An extremely rotten RHD Citroen Ami van! That's all for now. EssDeeWon
Hats off! I don't have any of those Southend spots except for the red Dolly round Jones Close. barrett
Flipping heck that Ami van is LITERALLY the best thing I've ever seen. Wonder if it in any way saveable? Pick up a cheapo estate donor car from France and get busy with the mig. Wish I had some talent in that department. Dare I ask, is it for sale? Don't even get me started on the Belphegor ffs Angrydicky

Angrydicky
Yep spot on, all the Lincolnshire cars including the Ami van are at the Bubblecar Museum near Boston. Not sure if anything's for sale, that Belphegor was properly hanging and the Ami wasn't much better. It would be nice to see them saved as not a lot seems to be happening with them. Angrydicky
Bloody hell, it's that time of the year again. I've finally got off my arse and snapped a few cars I've wanted to for a while. There's also a few camera phone snaps going back several months. First up, this rather shabby old Acclaim, previously spotted by Vantman, but it lives just round the corner from my new digs so it would be rude not to get another pic. It's been with the current owner since 1996, and still has its original "Barretts of Canterbury" rear numberplate. Then this old Subaru Brat pickup, which also lives very close. Love the mismatched door. This tidy Nova belongs to a neighbour in my road, it's not the most exciting one (i.e. a super early beige or brown one), but never mind. I just happened to stumble upon this old Talbot Horizon, that unfortunately looked pretty far gone, such a shame the back window had been smashed as I imagine the interior was ruined. C259 DKE is currently SORN. When I was trying to hop out to pap the Acclaim, I found a parking space up a cul-de-sac right opposite this very tidy beige Fiesta. On the way back from photographing the Acclaim, the owner came out to drive away in it, so I complimented him on his car and its condition. He said he's had it from new, and has covered over 130k! He bought it new from Swales Ford in Sittingbourne and told me all sorts of horror stories about the work they did on it back in the 1980's. He keeps it garaged and has no plans to get rid, he said he traded in a C reg Fiesta for this one when he bought it and has a hatred of modern cars, too expensive and too much to go wrong with them. He's certainly had his money's worth out of it! That's the owner in the photos. This old Mazda 626 lives near my lockup, it's fairly clean apart from a missing rubbing strip on the drivers door. Saw this old Volvo 240 saloon in the contractors parking area at University the other day, it had a sign in the window saying it was a plumber on call. The only interesting car I've ever seen on campus. Another one for the Volvo pervs, this has already been snapped by EssDeeWon, but there's no harm in showing it again. I took a pic of the awesome rear screen sticker as well. This Austin Devon had great patina before it was 'restored'. Still good to see it being used though Think this Marina is another one owner job. Seen in Leigh on Sea. So nice to see an early Cortina in original condition, and the reflective plates indicate a long term owner, although I haven't looked it up to see how long the owner's had it. Local reg too, I saw this in Southend. And lastly I was out testing my Somerset on the outskirts of Canterbury when I spotted something that made me turn the car around and head back. A 1971 Marina coupe, in Bedouin, which must be one of the oldest survivors! As I was taking these pictures the owner came out of the shop and approached me. She said her father bought it new in 1971, and she's had it since his death in 1984. It still gets used regularly, and she said she gets lots of people commenting on it! Vantman
Good spots! I know the lady who owns the Marina in your last picture and good to see that old Acclaim still going well. I always stop and admire it whenever i am parked nearby, hoping that the owner may come along. Do you ever eat in the Sportsman Cafe? Oh really, all those roads between wincheap and nunnery fields used to be pretty chod heavy, giffer central plus council houses at the end of lime kiln road. If you go down Lancaster road (about 2 streets away from Zealand road) you'll probably see a big powder blue merc owned by a fellow I know, also spotted here http://autoshite.com/topic/17945-holiday-spots-may-contain-traces-of-old-mercs/?p=622105 My other suggestion would be barton estate off the new dover road, heavy giffer concentration, leading to low mileage unloved japanes motors with parking knocks and blowing exhausts aplenty. A small world indeed. There are lots of old giffers around here, which is why its a shame there isn't a huge amount of tat, but I think this is definitely the most fruitful area of Canterbury to spot in.
