For the past few weeks I have occasionally got no reply when I tap on something on the forum. It's no particular area that seems to be affected. The loading bar sticks at about 1/8th of the way and goes no further, then after about a minute I sometimes get this:

Or sometimes the page eventually loads.

I have a Samsung phone which although its only about a year old, is spectacularly rubbish and it could just be that.

Nah that's definitely a site issue. I've not seen it personally but I'll have a look later at the logs to see if anything obvious comes out. Given the time, I suspect the site was under a high load at the time as it's just before many people start work at 9am. So lots of people hitting refresh on the site all at once. I imagine that is related to why it failed to load the page.

In 2017, I started a thread called Riviera Rammel: chod spotting at the Monaco GP. I can't find it and there's only a slight reference to it through Google which goes nowhere. Have I deleted it or do threads get archived or deleted after a certain amount of time?

This is literally all I can find and it's not in Zantimisfit's search results.

I don't think any thread has been archived. The forum software has that feature but there is nothing in there. 

If it's been deleted, it only stays in the recycle bin (only admins/mods can see that) for 30 days. After that it's gone forever. 

So if you can't find it, it's almost certainly been deleted.

We were running quite close to the server RAM limits, so under high load I suspect it pushed it over. I've fiddled with some of the allocation to hopefully alleviate this. 

I think we need to move across to the new setup relatively soon. While this works, it's creaking at the seams a bit and allocating more resources to get over that will be more expensive than the rebuilt setup. (I've changed the disk setup to remove excess space where we don't need it, which saves money to then spend on a faster CPU/more RAM setup). We're also only have a few months left when this current OS setup is out of security support.

I haven't seen this error happen when I've used the site so it's really hard for me to diagnose what/when. However I can see that it's failing to get any data in the error logs. Just doesn't explain why. A long delay suggests you're hitting the timeout limit of 60s where if there isn't a response from the forum software, the web server gives up. Why there is a long delay is not clear at the moment. 

I don't know what you guys are doing on the shite in miniature thread but the error logs is full of failed requests relating to that thread - in both text content and image!

I need to cross reference the time on the above error with the CPU load logs to see if there is any correlation between the two. The other day I tweaked down some of the memory use to try seeing if that solves the problem but evidently not. It appears to be something in the forum software that is acting real slow on occasions. Unfortunately that's the forum software problem and they don't make that easy to diagnose any root cause. I did notice they've done a last minute patch very recently so I might have a gander to see what that may fix too.

for what its worth I got a 502 bad gate way when I clicked on the "reputation from somewhatfoolish page 916" google search result back when I was digging up the thread for @jonny69

I figured it was just the server shitting itself at having to bring up content from 300 years ago

I think the proper solution is to move across to the new server soon. This is getting too creaky and struggling versus the much higher spec setup on the new server. 

I've just checked the email server on it and that seems happy now that I've got the new IP unblocked from spamhaus. (IP addresses are automatically blacklisted as bad nowadays unless you specifically request otherwise)

I just assumed this was all because it’s hosted on an AMD K6-2 400 box with as much PC100 RAM stuffed in the slots that Windows 98 would recognise. Are you still hosting it off that knackered houseboat too? I’ve got a load of those really expensive Edwards vacuum pumps at work, I’ve heard they use a lot of the same parts on the bilge pumps. Let me know if you want me to pinch any spares or if you need something to pump the shitter out into the river.

Spoke too soon - getting lots of problems getting pages to load today, usually the SIM thread. Having to open a new tab and go into the thread that way. Also sometimes my pics won't upload and time out so I have to refresh the page and try again

I’m getting frequent ‘Bad Gateway 502’ messages like @Split_Pin and @bunglebus mentioned further up this page. 
Sometimes it’s fine then other times it gets stuck trying to load a page then after a while gives me the white page with the error & gateway test.

Sometimes if you refresh the page again it works fine but other times not.

Server is under very high load. CPU is pegging at 100% with the database server taking a lot of that load. I've given the database server a quick restart but I think there is just a lot of users on here tonight. Can't do much more as only on my phone.

Everything is ready to switch over to the new server. Just need to schedule time to do the switch as it'll take a few hours.

The database software had an update come through and some of the release notes mentioned a bug that caused a 4x slow down on some transactions. I applied the update late last night as it is a quick one to apply even when the site is live (yee-haw 🤠!). Let me know if it has made any difference. Especially those who frequent the Shite In Miniature thread as that always seems the most affected. Probably because it's a popular and busy thread with a lot of regular new content, so pushes the server harder.

I'm not fully hopeful it will but it does sound like most of these issues suddenly appeared after the last updates were applied last month.
