Wafty Yank Barge of Dreams Collection Right Said Fred

It's been decided brutality is the order of things, so Alan the mechanic will set to with a hammer (Sealtainn is fine with this).

It'll just have to run without trims for the time being, getting the wheels off is more important. We can replace them with less stupid retaining nuts at a later date.

A yank parts place did get back to me, but the relevant tool is £59 plus postage with a 14 day lead time.

Quick update on the Buick.

The battery tray has been replaced (bolted in to keep costs down), TRE has been changed. ABS fault appears to be a broken ring. Rob has turned Sherlock Holmes and found a place that’ll make a new one on a 3-day turnaround. All that remains then is to figure out how to get the ABS light off then it’s re-MoT time. I’m hoping it’ll be by the end of next week but we shall see. In my usual AS tradition I’m looking at a bill of around £700 for my £20 raffle win

Surely I win the award for “Most Drawn Out Collection”.

The Buick has been collected from RobT as both he and Alan (his long suffering mechanic) had done all they could for her. After replacing loads of parts and spending a fortune, the ABS light refuses to go out. It’s currently in Walthamstow with a mate who’s putting it for MoT on Saturday so *fingers crossed* she will be good to go as she’s already taxed and insured. She will be staying around there for about a week as a couple of mates want a shot before she heads North to Aberdeen and the ferry to Shetland. I might actually get my hands on the keys before I head to Bulgaria in mid August

Does the ABS actually work if you drive it and stand suddenly on the pedal?

Good point, I don't think so.  Fortunately I've never had to call on ABS in any car I've owned, I just find the added 'thing to go wrong' a pain in the butt.

So today a monumental thing happened 357b6d74ca7d900d2e1fe2b7c87bfba0.jpg
It’s only been 4 months since I won the raffle
By way of celebration I’ve threw an order in to Rockauto for Coil pack, plugs, leads & filters

I may be new, but I know a good car saga when I read one.  Epic perseverance on display there my good chap.

Onwards and upwards.

At last!  Monumental levels of patience shown on your part too.

Congratulations I was wondering what had happened to the big pimp mobile. Soon to be the only Buick in the Shetlands?

Hell yes, I still want experience this motorcar for myself at least one. Would be interesting to see how it compares to the Roadmaster I have ridden in last week.

So in true A-Team fashion, a plan has come together.

Alex (forum hero that he is) will be pointing the Buick in a northerly direction this Thursday and it’s booked on the ferry on Friday. All being well it will finally be in my possession on Saturday morning ?

I’ll finish work on Saturday, go and collect it, waft home, collect my luggage and head back to Lerwick in my Focus, drop that to the bodyshop to have some work done while I’m away then onto the boat and head to Bulgaria for 3 weeks. Fly back to Luton then train to Croydon, collect another car and drive that back to Aberdeen.

By the time I’m back from Bulgaria, I’ll officially have my own fleet of 3 cars ? Not including the Transit or Granada which are both in Bulgaria

Oooh!

What sort of time would you two lovely people be around the ferryport then? I'd be up for grabbing a coffee in Union Square, or something.

It would be amusing to park my 316 next to the Buick for a size comparison too.

No idea what sort of time Alex will get to Aberdeen, sadly I will be picking it up in Lerwick as can’t get out of work on Saturday else I’d have come down and collected it from Aberdeen myself. However I’ve got several hours to kill on Sunday before my flight down to Luton if you want to meet up for a coffee then?

I’ve used the Driiveme website for one way car hire, Alex this might be a good shout for you, they also do Vans if you needed to kip on the way back. Only works going south though.:.

That's how I found it, took one from Edinburgh to Heathrow to pick up a roffle prize with the help of SierraMikeHotel. Was a bit worried it was some kind of scam with it only being a pound but it worked great and I even got an upgrade, not as big an upgrade as I got at Heathrow! Sorry for the thread hijack by the way, good luck with all this car moving!

I found Driiveme earlier today, then see it mentioned here. Seems bloody excellent if you are near Edinburgh and have a car to pick up in the south.

I have arrived at my first stop, and am currently waiting for my co-driver. Unfortunately I'm going to have to leave the comfort of my car shortly and swap over to his shitty little french biscuit tin for the rest of the journey over to Essex.

To be honest I'd rather do this delivery solo. My co-driver is an absolute cretin of a man but he has breakdown cover, so needs must.

The M25 Expressway is such a nice place to be. It's motoring in a more relaxed fashion. I even have time to get out of the driver's seat and have a lie down.
