Yes they were generally shit, assuming they hadn't turned into a pile of iron oxide within the first five years.

I always remember my dad dragging me down the street to look at a "new" 101 that was the same age as his Mk II 'tina. "Look at the rust on that bonnet edge" he said. "Never buy a Vauxhall".

Fucking sight better than the equivalent Ford

Why is everyone selling their big old Vauxhalls? Are they shit or something?

I do like that. Back in the '80s I used to daydream about having one with a V8, I think inspired by one I saw in Custom Car, and it still seems like a pretty good idea now. Maybe a '90s small block Chevy with fuel injection?

The VXs and Ventoras were handsome bastards. One of my earliest car memories is reaching up to the chrome door handle on my dad's bosses VX estate and hopping in. He had borrowed the car for 24 hours - it felt like a limo with decent grunt to 4 year old me, especially in contrast to his usual daily driver Chrysler Horizon. They're still lovely looking motors, and much like most GM motors of the era, undervalued compared to the Ford alternatives.

I like that, im a bit of a maestro fan, but is a 1.3L with scabby bits really a 2250 car these days? My wifes diesel one was 700 quid 2 years ago. Perspective and all that

No!  I'd say about half that; a friend sold a very comparable car (F reg 1.3L with full MOT but some rusty bits) for around £1100 last autumn, and he's not one to ever let anything go for a penny less than he can possibly get.
