I don't think this one will reach the price of the MKII Escort on the previous page (£9000)

The ad is quite funny in a well written way (but I do feel a little sorry for the owner):

In February 2007 when I was living in South London, I gave the car to a sole trader car bodywork specialist (we will call him 'John')

He had a string of bad luck (accidents and illness)

time rolls by and I can't get hold of 'John'

I jump on a train and go to visit him, only to find his lock-up locked up!

I eventually found my car in 2012 parked up on a driveway of a friend of 'Johns'

This is Pre-Production Velar Chassis Number 2, Built on 12th December 1969 and registered on 2nd January 1970 as YVB 152H. There is a full history with this car. She is MOTd and Taxed and drives very well indeed. Not only is she Chassis Number 2 but she also has the pre-production Carmichael body. This is a unique opportunity for you to buy the earliest Velar on the market in the World which you can drive and enjoy immediately without spending the fortune which it costs to restore these cars. This car causes a stir wherever she goes and will be great on the rally scene. All the equipment works and all the accessories are present. I might be interested in a pre-66 part exchange for something big, long legged and comfortable.

Looks like a wannabe doctor. Certainly has the camera skillz and the spiel (which I couldn't be arsed to read more than the first line of). Good luck to him, it looks lovely, although it's no mkII Escort is it?

What are those Bluebirds like, reliability-wise? Made in the UK so "questionable" build quality but do they share the merits of similar Japanese made Subarus, Hondas etc of the era?

Posted

That yellow "mexico" shell on the last page sold for £700+ without any tags.

Is a shell any good without tags? I'm assuming there's another Escort running around on that identity so surely this one can never be returned to the road?

You still see a fair few (Bluebirds) knocking about. That must say something.

Why not buy one and find out? There's normally someone on here trying to flog one!

All mine ever needed was a backbox and wheel cylinder. Very easy to work on and one of the first Jap cars to properly resist rust.

The Bluebird is the pick of the day. Very popular with our Asian shopkeeps

There's nowt questionable about the build quality! Sunderland is one of the best factories in the world. The Japanese didn't let them get away with shoddiness.

I'd say there's a little short of merits compared to Subarus and Hondas - they aren't exactly exciting to drive. That era of Honda could be surprisingly entertaining and non-turbo Subarus have their charm.

Yep, the Bluebird is not fun to drive. However I found it was refreshingly unsporty and unpretentious. It also has some of the comfiest seats I've ever experienced

I had a really shit bluebird as they go and it was still good.

Be worth noting what that Escrot cabrio goes for when the Doc advertises it in a month's time....

How gloriously shit is this?
