I drove a lot of W124s when they were new and the 260E was pretty much as fast as a 300E in real life. In fact it was only when the 24v and 320 came along that I thought the bigger engine worthwhile and that was partly the novelty of the 5 speed box.

 

Interesting that for the W210 the 2.6 6 pot ( by now V6) was badged as a 240.

 

You don't understand the real problem here.

Whenever you fill up your 260E, someone will walk towards you and say 'I had a 300'.
