It needs cubing, about the only thing worth saving is the engine; why anyone would hang on to one of those and let it get vandalised rather than bunging it in the next classic auction as soon as they discovered they had bought X thinking it would be compatible with Y is inexplicable. The bullshit factor from the vendor also suggests they have a misguided idea of its value, despite failing to sell it for the past 3-4 months or so.

Sorry, I meant DVLA.

And no, it is generally not possible to register a car without paperwork.

You need to send in the originals, they don't even accept copies.

The DVLA guidelines explicitly state they do not require registration documents from the country of origin. A certificate from the manufacturer or a letter from an approved club is all you need. Over the last couple of years I hae registered around 20 cars in the UK, many had no documents whatsoever, including my Ford Model A, which was discovered in the Terrot motorcycle factory where it had been hidden behind a wall during WW2 and discovered decades later. No possible chance of establishing true ownership as everyone involved was long dead. It was then brought to the UK with no NOVA or anything else. I had a lovely new BF reg for it within three weeks of taking ownership.

Seriously, it's fine. Just don't import anything from Australia unless you want a bureaucratic nightmare.

Vauxhall Viceroy 2.5 €2495

Were these just pitched as a fancy Carlton? Was there a Rekord equivalent?

The Commodore was the equivalent Opel

The Carlton, Viceroy and Royale were being promoted together, but as three distinct models, in 1980, separate from more humble Cavaliers and Chevettes:

Why did they make such a fucking fuss with my R16 then? Because I'm Austrian?

I begin to shit a little on English 'authorities', lemme tellya.

Next time I'll tell those little Englanders to shove it under their nonexistant foreskin.

I think you misunderstand how British bureaucracy works: just because it's written down in their own guidelines, it all depends who opens your letter and what mood they're in when they open it. Sometimes you'll get unlucky.

Here's a weird one. It's a mark 2 Astra from Junkmans last acceptable year of manufacture but under the bonnet we find something unexpected. Rather than the standard Family2 OHC motor, we find a pushrod 1256 from the Chevette.

I didn't know Vauxhall used this engine in these - maybe they found a load of old Chevette engines in a shed somewhere and decided to use them up in a poverty spec special? Or has some maniac decided that cambelts are "too complicated" and built it himself?

Either way it's got to be rare and therefore worth more than a Lotus Carlton

I think those have a sub-1200cc ‘sleeved down’ version of the chevette engine for that extra dash of misery!!!

Posted

Must be dire. I had a Chevette and it's Achilles heel was that engine. Wheezy, gutless, not particularly refined or economical and few (if any) tuning parts available. I remember spending 1991 saving up to buy a Ford crossflow engine to drop in it (which I never did as the car failed it's last MOT quite spectacularly).

Can't rally understand why Vauxhall would have built it unless it was because somebody found a shed full of Chevette motors. But whoever buys it will hopefully have a set of imperial spanners as the engine uses imperial bolts! That alone makes it grade A shite!

I am a little tempted. Poverty spec three door hatches always floated my boat

Seller thinks it's a 1.3 (which would be overhead cam) rather than a 1.2 but without number plates it's impossible to check what DVLA say.

September 1985 and June 1986 brochures both say this:
