the carb needs tuning. (I think the jets may need changing)

The carb needs changing. It will never run properly with that cheap-ass Mikuni copy on.

the indicators run off a separate rechargeable battery

Genius.

Dunno what those wheels are off, but they'd look nice on a less monged Cub. The rest of it can go in the skip.

I always liked these ..odd but at the same time somehow refined.

At £8000 it's way beyond my budget but I note that it's got a ' Ford V4 2.0 litre engine ' which I've never owned nor driven but which I thought had a pretty awful reputation.  What's the consensus on those. ?

This bloke in Nottm/Kirkby on GummyBear comes along very regularly with overpriced shite but every so often he has some stupidly cheap chod, which he threatens to scrap in a week. Pick of the week are:

This Fester for £140 with MoT until 23 Dec 17 is tempting

This Punto for £140 has MoT until June 2018, but loads of advisories:

In fairness that RO looks nice in all other respects, if it's as good as it seems in the photos then it's probably an ideal candidate for re-rotarising. Proper engines are actually fairly common and not loads of money. You can offset some of the purchase price by selling the V4 to the owner of a small boat that keeps coming adrift

Back in the 70s putting a 2.0 Ford V4 in to replace a rotary was a known swap, especially as the V4s were readily available.

Doesn't make it a good idea though in my book. It was always a lazy / cheap option and at the time getting arotary sorted was too expensive for some. If you want a nice VW from that era with a conventional engine then a K70 is a nice idea.

The fact that sorted rotary engines are not that difficult to get hold of now makes the transplant in that one even less understandable.

problem with using a K70 engine in an Ro80 is that the inline

remember the Ro80 was designed around a Wankel engine, which is very much smaller than a conventional motor. hence a short, wide engine bay.

plus finding a good, reconditioned NSU Wankel engine is along with Unicor shit and the Holy Grail, and completely unobtainable.

however the ford Germany V4 can still be found and can still be rebuilt, as it fitted allsorts of stuff over the years including SAAB. plus a newer Mazda Wankel is little better than the original NSU one, as all the RX8's for sale have fucked up engines. plus the newer engine is all electric everything, the NSU engine doesn't.

so a V4 engine is the sensible, and affordable solution to keeping a car on the road instead of sending the car off to the bridge.

Greetings, Shitkickers, and straight into number one spot at one in this weeks 'Vaguely celebrity shadow' chart is an impressive effort by Sammi Lou Welsby who managed to get ET drinking a can of a lilt into the picture of her "Peug 206" on CARS FOR SALE CHESTER AND NORTH WALES on Facebook

I wasn't suggesting a K70 transplant, in fact quite the opposite. If you really want a car like the Ro with a cinventional engine then go and find a K70, just don't bastardise an Ro80.

I'd love an Ro, I'd rather like a K70 too. But I like 'different'
