This is seriously weird. Many many years ago I had a 1955 Velox... EXACTLY like that. The same blue with white. brings back memories.

Side opening bonnet had gone by then .

I read they reverted to a normal opening one because the hinges rotted out- that'd be why yours went. What was the gearchange like?

What I meant was that by '55 the design was a rear opening bonnet. The side opening one was dropped in '53 or 4.Probably too soon for rot to be a problem, I would suspect accountants.  My father had a side opener which I think was '53. It also had a boot release button inside the car, almost like the new style with the small design flaw that you had to get out of the car and open the rear door to press the button which was located in the panel underneath the seat squab, even my 7 year old mind thought that was stupid. Also slidey up and down windows which had gone by "55. The column gearchange was pretty normal for the day and worked well.

I am just on the phone to the duty High Court Judge to obtain an interim injunction restraining Skizzer from buying the white on white Rancho.   It is for his own good.

Sanity has prevailed and the Guardianship Order from the Court of Protection is on hold.  A pity, really, as I'd have got the keys to the Gammakoop.

If it worked at all it's better than some 4 speed columns I've gnashed recently. You had a priviledge upbringing, when I was 7 my old man had an A55 pick-up which was transport for a family of 4. We used to dream of a back seat to grovel under for the boot release!

Edit: Oh the synchromeshnicity of it, as I wrote this Scruff kindly posted an A55 pick-up picture.

I can't help but think Herr Junkman is planning another trip over to Ireland soon.

But the joke is on me!!!!! Its a MEGA MINTOLA 28,000 mile effort that the guy is bringing back from Japan! Can you believe these things warrant that much effort?

Flippin good on him. I would love to have a perv at this, what a stunner. Just try to imagine the life of this car, I would absolutley love to know more.

It even has a cup holder

Oh aye, Carroll Shelby always insisted on fitting them. Anyway, I'm not going to go to town on the guy, as:

I’m so sad to be selling this dream toy but I’m now in my 70’s with dodgy knees and bad back and its getting very difficult to get down and complete the project

Could maybe graft this onto the rear half of that four door saloon from yesterday?

LOL at the Q&A section trolling:

Q: Did it have any advisories on the last MOT?

A: Don't know. It was last in the road as far as I can work out in the 1980s

Q: Hi does it run and drive ok? As I live about 3 hours from you. Thanks

A: The car is in half and the engine is not fitted. It will need transporting. Thanks

Q: Has it any service history with it?

A: Sorry no just the new V5c

Q: Don't you feel guilty selling this pile of poo ?

A: No! Why would I.

Dad! Dad! Dad! Dad! Dad!

What, FFS?

Where are we going on holiday this year, is it EuroDisney?

Pah, it's FAR more exciting than that! It's....Boot Kamper!

But daddy, we don't want to go to boot camp and be marched round some silly Welsh mountain in the pouring rain, be treated like junior soldiers and have to eat nettle butties and moth eggs for breakfast, it's not fair :(

No, you silly billies, I said Boot Kamper, not boot camp!

i find myself strangely drawn towards one of these, even if it is a hopeless money pit!

this one is a 4.2 V8, so fragile as well as beautiful.

WCPGW? EVERYTHING!!

I still think this was the most handsome incarnation of the XJ's. Looked at a few the day I bought the Merc.  Would I have regretted it- well I'll never know!

There's an xjr complete with smoky engine on donedeal.ie asking 700 euro at the moment; looks lovely otherwise

I'd be happy enough with it as a garden ornament tbh

All mileage completed by my auntie who in 1974 decided

that petrol prices were to high and promptly put it in their barn

covered it in carpets

auntie: how much to fill the tiny petrol tank on my tiny economy car?

filling station attendant: well, since it's the seventies, half a penny.

auntie: FUCK. THAT. [tears driving licence up]
