I wimped out of a certain purple 500CL when I went to see it, so why am I drawn like a moth to a flame to even higher tech repossessed CL 600 at the other end of England? No MOT, seized for driving uninsured on Irish plates, WCPGW indeed?

Smart 740. £999. Only 2 litre though.

Worth it just for the graphic equaliser below the radio. Wcpgw?

As my Dad's last car was 740 I was suddenly struck by the "only 4 former owners, last one since 1997" and reworded evilly in my head to "only 4 former owners, all dead"

A lot of performance for the price, but are the horror stories about the engine imploding as common as is made out?

I think these earlier ones are a bit more robust. No swirl flaps etc.

What Cort said, when my late e61 530d expired last year, there were loads of e39/e46 and early e60 3litre Diesel engines around for peanuts , because there's no demand for them apparently. They just keep going.

God help everyone when F10's start getting cheap , the engine in my car was basically the same as the F10 and my mechanic couldn't believe the way a lot of components had been made cheaper and more flimsy- the cam shafts for instance were hollow and twisted like a piece of liquorice when the chain snapped.

Cheap Rover 800 with the Reliable Honda Engine and test until September.

There were a couple of these at the Kings Lynn auction the other week, and I was surprised at how much they made.

It always makes me worry that the picture was taken in 1994 and the car is now three different colours with rotten front wings....

Not for me then, I need that space to put my glasses case, small biros from the bookies, change for the car-park, travel sweet tin, etc.

Also those photos were taken in the busy end of a huge a supermarket car park. Did they get back with their shopping and decide there and then to sell it? Your guess is as good as mine.

I think early manuals with 184 bhp don't have swirl flaps ticking away, all autos and all 193 bhp do have. We have 2 without, on 195k and 244k and going well.

I think the engine itself is pretty strong, it's things like swirl flaps and bad servicing/failled turbos that caused a bad reputation.

Must remove the swirl flaps on mine...

Now that almost all the good ones have become bad ones or were bought by collectors already, the voracious dealers are starting to ruin the XM-market in Austria.

You'd have to have solid granite plumbs to buy a v12 CL600, repo on Irish plates with keyless entry and no v5.

When are you picking it up?
