Could be a dodgy odometer based on how much it's epicly failed everywhere else since 2006 but that said if the instrument cluster is held in anything like the MK2 Polo (both being 80's VW products they probably are) it's surprisingly easy once you know what you're doing. I switched the analogue clock for a tacho on my MK2 and had to remove it a few times while messing about with bulbs hence why I know.

924/944 odometer gears are made of cheese, I've owned 1 and seen 2 others knackered. A wee gear cracks so a dab of superglue fixes it. Doesn't explain the erratic miles though, usually they just stop. Speedo cable a bitch to put back on though.

That was advertised on RR for like £900. With a price like that I hope he has doccumentaion to show 2 new head gaskets, two new thermostats, oil filter, oil, coolant x3, a new radiator, a new water pump, a new cam belt, all new heater pipes and Saab valve, four new tyres, and a new fuel filter.

If he hasn't, he's not in our league. And should half his price.

I'm struggling to imagine how utterly useless a 15-year-old sat nav would be though.  Even the one in the Vel Shatis is hopelessly out of date.
