The Passat has what I think is an alternator whine, most noticeable at low speeds. Is it a duff bearing in the alternator and is it serviceable?

Or buy another from a breaker, if you can bear it join your local FB 'Dub' type sales pages, usually £10-£20 a throw. There are about 300 Passats being broken a day at present.

Make sure the alternator clutch pulley is working too whilst you're down there ;)

Does this have one of those funny one way pulley things or whatever bollocks? I.e. not a solid lump of steel.

I use the laser sump plug repair kits ! Bloody great , no drilling needed. Just grease the tap well and screw it in there. It’s just a 1mm over size tap and plug . Ie if it was originally m14x1.5 then you need a m15x1.5 .

Much better than fucking about with helecoils and / or Jb weld

Second hand DMF, is this excess mingebaggery?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alfa-Romeo-fiat-147-1-9jtd-16v-duall-mass-flywheel-Valeo/282950524165?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649

I reckon my multipla will need a clutch & DMF soon, with a used DMF I could get the bits for £100 or so, for new I reckon £300+ which is 1/3 of the cars value.

I do like the thing but I never keep cars that long and don't want to spend lots on a modern dizzler.

You can test them pretty well. You can download an app from Luk that will tell you the specs to test it and all the torque figures

Probably is on a 1.9JTD. They're not known for their long DMF life.

But I think you can measure the play? I know the garage I use did on my Civic when they did the clutch. Said it was absolutely fine and I put another 50k ish on without a problem.

How do I measure, or what part do I measure on this fixing to check if it's 1/4 inch BSP or 1/2 inch BSP? (Or something else)

That’s not bsp- it’s orfs . O ring flat seal

Do you have a pirtec or a john Deere dealer nearby ( JD love orfs pipes)

Think they are a metric thread

Yup 2000 onwards they are available in FWD and RWD . Both rusty shitboxes with terrible engines tho

Damn. Amazon reviewers told lies. Explains the supplied fibre washers. There is a pirtex dealer not that far away. Not sure when they open, Google says 24/7 and so does their website. Surely that can't be correct?!

I need to convert this to either 1/8" or Schrader valve. My original intention was to attach a Schrader 556 coupler to the end of that pipe.

Orfs doesn’t usually use fibre washers tho . The male end usually has a groove machines into it that an o ring sits in . Could be some Micky mouse chinese non conformist shit like those rubbish airlines you get with diy compressors

Thanks for that. The original is Valeo not LUK but I'm sure the play will be more or less the same.

I've found a new set for £215, is that suspiciously cheap?

Pirtex do 24/7 call out, but the branches are 8-6 or something like that.

Welder - it's always just fired up and ran without issue other than the bloody user.....

Turns on ok - fan blasting around as per..... Not a bloody thing when I pull the trigger though.

Opened up the trigger and the usual 2 spade connnectors but also a pale blue wire dong sod all. Is it supposed to?

I was so annoyed I forgot pics.

Any hing else I should check on a Clarke 205 Turbo mig?

First time I've opened the thing apart from wire jams...... totally lost!

Any easy ways to find where my aircon system is leaking?

Something to do with a UV light and special glasses iirc. Doubtless more knowledge folk than me can elaborate

Firstly check the fuse(s) then blow all the dust, grinding grit etc out of it, then check for dry joints on the board.

Modern car question. After a 130 miles trip this morning l parked up.

On return there was a wet patch on the ground under the passenger side door and water dripping from a rubber tube. Could this be a overflow for the Aircon?

All levels checked and ok. This was clear water no antifreeze. Any ideas?

OH Nissan x-trail 64 plate.

Cheers LP I knew it was just checking the nagging doubt.

Yep, most SWB are FWD

MWB available as both

LWB generally RWD

also allows a factory AWD

Garage round the front from me do work for a delivery fleet of transits . One came in for a clutch , young lad grabs the job card smiling . Easy job and bread n butter for them . Wasn’t smiling so much when he put it up in the air and saw it was an awd one !

I didn’t realise they did a 2000 onwards one if I’m honest . Bastard of a job now tho , whole front subframe out , massive transfer box in the way . Hahahahaha

Looked no different from a normal van outside either , not like the old smiley counties .

Wonder why a parcel delivery company even had one in cornwall

Posted

Ex-utility company maybe? I've driven one, the extra traction is useful on unpaved tracks and in the snow but they're no off roader.

Still has oily bits with county written on tho !

In answer to my question the pipe is a 1/4" BSP fitting based on the fact that a 1/4" BSP airtool connector screwed into it. I believe the actual connector is a BSPP and not BSPT. Similar but not the same.

The Schrader fitting appears to be a 1/8" NPT. Closely similar to a 1/8" BSPT but much more different to a 1/8" BSPP. According to Google...

What's this Princess Diana mobile worth? Out of MOT, the hood leaks a little, that interior. 1.8 20v, manual, drives fine.

It's near Aviemore if anyone wants it.
