Thanks, I expect I'll continue to collect funds throughout the week (someone has already mentioned Friday for payment) and hopefully hand over the virtual reddies to FOAD at the weekend.

Thanks all.

Just caught up with the 'AS Christmas appeal' thread. Utterly heroic stepping into the breach there, FOAD and all who stumped up.

This place etc.

Have I missed the boat for contributions? Or will there be another 'tranche'?

You'll need to stump up 88.10 to even it out though...

I have continued to receive cash overnight, and now we are up to

£143.19

Yes, more than one person has tried to even up the odd pence!

Thanks.

I think it's really going to come down to how much it costs to get the car roadworthy.

Judging by the way the donations are going it's not gonna cost him a penny.

What's the plan if the 'owner' wants it back.  Say he pays £500 (material plus labour to foad) - does everyone get their money back?  Or does he just say thanks very much and drive off to the Ministry of Transport's nearest centre?

If he wants to buy it back, everyone will get their money back.

The previous owner retaining the V5 does worry me a bit, it relies rather heavily on their goodwill.

If FOAD does all the work and then the previous owner wants it back but doesn't want to pay a reasonable price, what then? I know the V5 is not proof of ownership, but in practice how does anyone become the registered keeper without the previous owner's consent?

One of the best things about this forum is the group (or individual) efforts to save endangered cars. I just wonder if there are people outside the forum who might take advantage given the chance.

It's the old adage, don't gamble with what you can't afford to lose....

We've proceeded on the basis of donations to save the car. I think we all want to see it on the DVLA website with a current MOT. That's the main goal.

if we can do that at no net cost to anyone here - brilliant.

If we lose our shirt but the car is saved, we have spread the pain among all the donors.

The only reason I never pushed for the v5 when collecting the car was because the owner was still clearly quite attached to the car and a little bit emotional about it leaving.

He did say that the car is now mine to do as I please with it but wanted first refusal when or if it was finished.

There wasn't a timescale or cost added because it's difficult to say how long it will take to fix it until I actually start doing the work.

The way I'm looking at it is that the forum is helping to ensure the future of the car, if we get it roadworthy and give the previous owner first refusal to buy it back/pay for the work completed and he decides to buy it then great, we pat ourselves on the back at a job well done and the money goes back to everyone who contributed to the cause.

If he doesn't want it? Then what?

I'm happy to listen to any suggestions?

Owned by the forum?

Shiter loan scheme?

That's all up for debate.

Only thing i am unhappy about is the lack of a Blue Peter style totaliser.

Egg, you're still in my recent transactions list on PayPal, I'll bung a fiver over on pay day (20th) if that's ok?

Foad made him cry !

I made a polish man cry that same day.

Hi Egg, I hope you're still taking donations. Please could I bung a fiver in for FOADs trouble? That promo photo shot has to be recreated though.

I'm sure Foad will get the v5. Why would the guy want his old car back just the way he let it go? (Foad... Keep the old sill remains...)

Surely if FOAD cannot obtain the Visa's V5, there's nothing stopping him applying to DVLA for a replacement?
