Zafira rust

Kim Henson...if it be he is a proper old school mechanic/journalist. Last timeI read of him he was using an A30/35 as an everyday. So this looks bonafide.

My 08 Astra H obviously doesn't have this felt material but water still pools in the plastic cover. I drilled a drainage hole in it when I read about this a while back.

Kim still writes for Car Mechanics and had an write up about this Zafira in a recent issue. CM still run an "our Cars" column which is quite interesting as a few of the contributors run our kind of chod

I buy car mechanics and saw the article. The subframe was like flaky pastry.

Reading that article I can just picture him pulling his best compo face.

Rust is the least of your worries really if you're running a 15y/o zafira

Good to hear. Good writer and lives what he writes. I will look at CM next time I see it.

Yea very true - well before that age the undertray should be off for inspection rather than a trip to the undertaker*

Maybe Vauxhall expected them to self ignite before the cross member dissolved!

I believe that this only applies to diesels. My understanding is that it is true though. My mot examiner tells a similar story. They are pretty rust proof otherwise. If the subframe wasn't hidden, they'd get caught earlier.

The car shown is a Diesel, so why didn't the car get the bit replaced when it was recalled 10+ years ago? Didn't bother to respond to the recall and now he moans about it?

I just had a look under my Zafira and that bit is still in good shape, it was replaced for free.

By the way, I doubt many cars still have that plastic undertray, lost mine on the Autobahn only weeks after i bought the car new, One side fell off making for very funny noises. Stopped on the shoulder, ripped it off and left it there.

What is the story about Zafira's being bad? Mine is now 16 years and the only failure so far was the pedal sending odd data to the engine (cured with a shot of WD40) and the engine speed sensor this summer. Had to drive home in limp mode, then two screws to replace and 30€ for the part.
