What Shite Did You Take Your New Born Home In?

I’ve got no kids, but when I was born my parents didn’t have a car.

So I came home on one of these:

Which I’m fine with!

It could even have been that very one as it’s a South Downs one.

I don't have kids, and my parents didn't drive until my brother came along in 1982, so were reliant on other family members transporting them around. Granddad George (dad's dad) brought a freshly hatched me home in a Simca 1301. My brother came home in my nan's (mum's mums) Chevette estate.

This, six months or so after this photo was taken by Brittany Ferries.

Parents had no car so I was carried home from the hospital, about 1/4 mile :)

(Shit picture I know, its the only one I have of it). Mrs_201's late run-out special mk1 Octavia 1.6 8v. Outside-bog Classic spec but with factory fitted aircon and dealer fitted genuine Skoda alloys, and VRS rear spoiler.

Youngest came home in the C Max that she later traded the Octavia in for.

Not a bad old tug. Pez engine so avoided all the TDCi ballaches. Better equipped than the Octy so the Mrs was happy. Was a good family chariot for the 5 years we had it, not a moment's bother.

I, on the other hand, was transported in a carry cot placed on the back seat of a HA Viva SL90...

No.1 2001 Octavia estate.

No.2 2001 Octavia estate.

No.3 2003 Ford Galaxy.

Can you see what happened there?

My first drive was down the pre-Expressway Bangor-Llandudno coast road, held tightly by the Mothership in a sidecar attached to the Owd Giffer's Triumph 650.

It was the Sixties, man.

He soon bought a Mini van.  200cc and two more cylinders, 25% more wheels and a roof for him, but otherwise not very different.

Hospitals didn't seem to have the same concerns about how babies were sent home in the olden days.

Apparently I was taken home by my 17 year old parents in a Thames 400e pickup, complete with paraffin tank on the back. It was so foggy my mum had to walk in front with my dad holding me in one arm whilst steering with the other!post-17414-0-38646700-1538240024_thumb.jpeg
