FWIW I think it’s terribly decent what you’ve done. I imagine you’re not only shouldering the transport costs but all of the repairs too. Gentlemanly, and tremendously generous.

It does sort of prove my point though. If the only way to get one of these things rocking is to ship it to another country and rely on the generosity of others, it’s not ideal transport for the new motorist.

Despite what others may think, I’m not being antagonistic. I do question stuff, even (particularly) my own shit decisions. I just can’t get my head around this being anything other than ridiculous. By the time it returns its GMT, dark at 1630, more cars out and about with fewer people walking and cycling. Wet weather, wind, misty glass… not good. At all.

No, you need to turn that into a challenge. Jump a cab to the nearest banger auction and buy the first sub £300 car and make a thread for the return trip.

Thank you. For what it is worth, I do think some valid points have been made by yourself and others. But here is the big BUT :-)

I think we all agree that Dez is not an idiot. Young and foolish maybe (sorry Dez) 8)  I think that you are missing a point. This will be his only car, but it will not be his daily driver. Dez has not had a car at all so far, and he has managed fine, and that routine will not change. REV will be his hobby car and he has stated that he will be starting slow and small journeys as he gains confidence. If it is raining and dark, he will not be going anywhere like we would not be using our old cars. So as a hobby car it makes much more sense. Sure, the first time out a drunken idiot in a SUV may crash into the back and squish Dez, but he is aware of that risk and if it happens I will have a clear conscience knowing it is what he would have wanted. Nothing is risk free, but know the risks, balance them and have fun if that is what you decide.

But he has also said that he will be using it to go to work, as yet still undefined, as far as I remember.

That could completely change his usage profile.

It would, but Dez does not have a job and is unlikely to ever be well enough to have one. I think that is more a wish than a probability. And if he is well enough and gets a job, he will have enough experience by then to decide if it is feasable.

He did say that he wanted to use REV to commute to and from a job. Unless he finds a job working nights this is going to throw him in at the deep end in a big way jostling with London rush hour traffic twice a day.

See my previous reply. This is where forums fall down, if you have met Dez you would know he is an optimist and hopes to work and have as normal a life as possible, but the reality is he has a long way to go to get there.

@chadders beat me to it with his girly typist quick keyboard skills. I'd wager that he always wore a short skirt when he was due a bollocking from his boss at work as well.

I really worry about you and your fantasies at times.

If you'd ever seen me you'd know that I couldn't be much less feminine, especially with my beard.

Just accept that Scouse brains are not as evolved as a normal humans and run at 1/2 speed, if that.

I'm sure that I've done worse.

As I've said here before. Whoever said that ladies are made of sugar and spice and all things nice had clearly never performed oral on a woman from Birkenhead.

Actually, no. A few people offered to do part of the journey but the logistics were getting out of hand. At over 1000 miles round trip, it takes a considerable input, and part of the delay has been trying to tie in a collection of my own from Sheffield. The biggest hold up, not that it matters, is my having to attend the Oncology clinic every week which restricts movements but hopefully that will change soon.

I did offer to do it all if required. I just couldn't afford to do it unpaid as I am not in a financial situation to afford to do so but would have offered a good discount. Would have meant braving London though which I didn't like the idea of,done it once and never again.

Fair play to you though for your help and for getting it back down south.

Let's just put it like this: I've never been to Turkey on holiday never mind for an op so it's all original bloke down there, albeit not working as well as it did in my 20s.

I'm confused? What's your life got to do with this? I was talking to the owner of the vehicle.  But I am seeing a lot of excuses from you and not much progression, Covid,  Funerals, etc. If I was to hazard a guess, is next weeks excuse going to be  Monkey Pox? It's causing me an awful lot of work at the minute.

It is very good to hear the owner has insurance as I thought he might struggle to insure it given his location.  It does seems to a bit of a waste to have had it insured for 4+ years for a single trip to the chippy, but I suppose there's a fair bit of NCB accumulated now. I wonder what the premium is and what the T&Cs are, but you will no doubt retort on behalf of the owner that 'it's none of my business' and you know what? You're right. Except this is an open discussion forum. Debate being the lifeblood of a forum, etc. So maybe you're not that right in taking offence on behalf of others who are quite capable of posting length replies in their own right. I'm guessing it's a £250 premium with 4k miles PA. I can't think it'll be garaged overnight.

So, my life in motor cars; here goes. I sold the Micra two weeks ago to the bloke I sold the Mercedes to. I got Hastings Direct to suspend my policy for a week pending something to replace it. I did the change to a 1990 216GSi yesterday, cover starting next Sat as the owner of that is struggling to get an MOT on it. It's in Sheffield or I'd have done it today myself, but I'm not one to take the piss and drive hundreds of miles for a pre-booked MOT. If the 216 falls through, I've got first refusal on a Rover 25 1.4 in the Midlands. Thats been given a shake down tomorrow regards condition. In the meantime, I use my Shogun. Or my Disco. Both of which are in this forum.  I work a shit load of hours so that does get in the way of collecting and repairing cars sadly. Work has been giving me a Mercedes B-klasse thingy. No idea, not interested. But it is diesel so I've got a decent range. 7 seats, 2 of which are notional. It chugs long alright but in no way feels like a Merc.

Satisfied now?

Given you now look to take offence at my posts on this thread, I therefore look forward, with ill concealed glee to next weeks excuse why the Invacare still isn't being delivered and/or driven on the road. Nobody this thread will break the 500 page marker by then. However, all joking/cynicism aside (delete as to your outlook to life) I'd genuinely like to hear tales of it actually being driven on the road mind you. If you'd care to wade through the excessive numbers of posts on this thread you will see I've never discouraged the owner from actually getting out and driving the thing. I do however find it curious the lack of pace concerning getting it out and on the road from an enthusiast. But then I am an inpatient soul as my team often finds to their cost.

Anyone who's met Saabnut will tell you he's a fucking diamond so you can fuck right off with your excuses pish.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree to a slight degree. There is plenty of options for people in all degrees of illness and disabilities to work from home or work to their strengths. I for one am in similar situation. No one would employ me to do what I've done nearly all my life which is mainly care work, domiciliary, nursing and ABI. I also enjoy driving and have worked in delivery jobs too for a short time but I have bad days once or twice a week minimum.

I have left side hemi paresis (left side weakness) from a TIA back in 2017. I was 30 years old and have worked in heavy jobs and did my own car repairs. I work for myself now mainly moving motorbikes. If I can't do a job I've booked in I ask my friend to help. When finances are better though I plan to get a winch on the trailer, shifting a honda pan euro highlighted that the other day! Careful parking and use of the terrain around me as well as a friend to push did help though.

This is not a dig at dez, yourself or anyone else here. Everyone's situation is different. I've met dez and think he's a sound lad,it was my mobility scooter I handed to him at the FOD even though I have mobility issues myself. If I was a complete and utter twat I wouldnt have done that.

As I've said before though Mr nut, fair play to you for what you've done for the lad.

Don't forget that with those Viagra jellies you have to eat them, not rub them into your blue-veined custard chucker.

Viagra isn't just there to give you a stiffy. It's a multitasking miracle that allows you to simultaneously pleasure a lady whilst pondering how to free that seized and rounded off shock absorber bolt.

With all this talk about @Saabnut, being a diamond I'm really hoping that he isn't that annoying 80s breakfast TV presenter Anne Diamond.
