Hello there, I'm Peter. Native of Ohio and resident of Kentucky - so you can imagine the amount of autoshite I see regularly! Ahh, redneck country.

Found this place mentioned on Flickr and thought I'd give it a try.

Welcome peter harvestman, by the look of some of your flickr things you will fit right in. Just remember the phrase "all Vauxhalls are shit " and you will be a god like figure of infinite wisdom. If you drive a BMW (or even a VW/Audi) be prepared for a lot of heavy abuse like "is it fitted with indicators?".

But best of all it's a lot of fun on here with a lot of good folk.

Hi everyone.

I joined a while back, but have been lurking. I thought it's time to contribute. I know a couple of shiters, one very well, but I have not seen him since January and another from north Devon, who has in the past been down to visit our shite drive to help with a shite project. I am at present keeping four shite cars on the road. One shite transit van modded to a camper. Plus helping my younger son keep a couple of daily driver sort of shite cars on the road.

The main reason I have decided to contribute is because, I was really jealous about shite fest. It sounds real fun, but I never felt I could go in the past. Sort of stepping on someone's toes, but he is old enough and big enough and not in the country to get over it.

So Hello everyone.

Belated welcome sir, where in Devon do you hail from?  I'm in North Devon, there's not many of us down this way, always good to see the balance restored.

Welcome along to everyone else too, lots of new members popping up lately.  Has there been an Autoshite marketing campaign?

Welcome!  Following you on Flickr now too.  I haven't been to Kentucky yet but have much love for the backwoods of Georgia and the Carolinas, for the scenery, the people and the vehicular relics (of which some here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/57855672@N07/albums/72157633371852259).

Welcome to other new folks too, obv.

My name's Robin, I own the ex-320touring Polo. I met a few of you at Crail on sunday, not with my car though! I think I'd have been close to the slowest if I had.

Are grey Polos like buses these days, you never see one for ages then two come along almost together?

And a Volvo tucked away, I see

Unfortunately (fortunately?) not mine, I'm sure some will recognise it though as it belongs to my dad who is also a member here.

You mean there's more of them!? Is the other one of equally glacial NA diesel-ness?

You got it! Hi phil_lihp. That's me in the pic exactly 30 years ago trying to teach myself gas welding on a mk1 GT Capri. With spectacular bad results.

Welcome new people, nice to see more of us soft southerners joining. We'll definitely have to get another Autoshite South West Meeting on the go!

Funnily enough, I've been running about in this for the last couple of weeks ☺

1.9 diesel. Surprisingly nippy

I'm up for a southwest meet. Any suggestions as to when and where? I don't mind travelling a bit.

Hello! Found this place by accident a couple of months back through various Flickr images and I must say I love it. I must be one of the youngest shiters, if not the youngest, at 19. My shite is a 1996 Polo 1.6 GL, bought it as my first car slightly on impulse two months ago as I was hyped to get driving. What I really wanted was a Civic or MK3 Golf, but hey this was cheap. Unfortunately she has some laquer peel on the bonnet, is quite thirsty, and I don't really fit in the car as I'm too tall.

It's a Polo fest!

Bet a 1.6 engine at 19 is expensive

Try a 1.9! Though it's an NA Diesel, and I think they realise it's incapable of going fast enough to do any damage...

Glacial???

My every day run about is an Escort van, Polo diesels are like sports cars after the van

Everyone should have a drive in my van just so they can appreciate their own cars more

Go on then I'll swap you the Cherry for a couple of days just to terrify the Mrs (and because I've never driven an Escort).

Welcome along to all the new chaps

The 1.6 isn't even that bad on insurance, paid slightly over £800 for the year fully comp without a box, with my mum as a named driver of course. I did have quotes in the region of £500 on 1.8 Mk3 Golfs but unfortunately they are quite thin on the ground.  I'd much rather have a Golf. :-(

Tom, take that offer!  The Cherry is a lovely little runabout.  Catz, don't believe the hype, you haven't missed much.
