Haribo has the wife sorted, I’ve got two trains to catch and hopefully a motor vehicle at the end of them to drive back in...

Based on your thread on PH, I'm looking forward to this.

Good luck!

Well I’m stuck at the station due to a lightning strike on the signal box, watching the delay eat into my breathing space between my other train, marvellous.

More buggeration, I just idly flocked to the beeb website at the station and saw these ‘train travel chaos’ didn’t have time to read as the train pulled in.

Hold or fold? Well, I’ve jumped on and checked the transpenine express site...

Ohdearme, indeed, my originally non-ironic username has got me.

I shall soldier on to Sheffield in the unairconditioned Turkish bath that is Northern’s rolling stock.

On the plus side, the chap in front of you has excellent taste in shirts.

Arrived at the consumeris Mecca that is Meadowhall, odd then, that they don’t have a food vending machine on each platform :(

Walked over and feasted upon Doritos and Yorkie, wouldn’t normally go Yorkie but since everything from a Tunnocks to a Kitkat was a quid, I thought I’d treat myself.

Couldn’t face paying £1.60 for water though...Chilli Hearwave flavour a mistake.

Train only 2 mins late though...back on track to there for a late pub lunch before the vendor delivers.

Which exact weather does the railway in Britain require to work properly?

It was one particular day in June 1955.

Unfortunately the UK was closed due to industrial action.

Excellent* standing room only on the train, air con at least and only three stops albeit an hour away.

The train from Meadowhell is always a delight in this weather, full of families who have spent all their money, bought lots of bulky stuff, tired, hungry and hot.

Typhoo put the T in Britain but who put the cu.... nope.  It's before the watershed, I can't finish that joke*.

One stop to go and my carriage awaits...

And the stealth prize goes to a newcomer this year...

The deed is done.

Minor miscommunication about the price but I didn’t mind the extra £50 as there’s damn near a full tank of juice in it.

Few minor issues with it but I feel less close to death than in the Alfa and it started after being idle for three weeks on vendors drive.

Doing the deal at his house always improves confidence too.

250bhp and a Vectra B chassis, what's not to like?

'Everything!' - the front tyres.

Well jell. That blue is lovely.

It is sat at home now so works well enough, not tremendously inspiring tid true but an efficient way of carrying two kids and a dog for not a lot.

It is an understeery heavy bus after an Alfa and no the aircon doesn’t work so despite the standing water for a miles and a half on the motorway I was relieved to see rain and the temp drop from 29 to 21 for a bit.

SAAB seats will be comfy in weather that doesn’t glue me to them and my balls to my leg.

Not perfect, quite a few bits to faff about with and sellers view of a bleb of rust is slightly different to mine but if there wasn’t something to fix it’d be boring.

Alfa glaring at me in the non-working dimming mirror like a jealous wife.

Urgh Scunny, brave man.

And yes, someone who lives in Grimsby (I wasn't born there though I'll have you know!) throwing stones :D

Which alfa?

Both of them, wife’s face appears to have got stuck in the ‘permanent disdain’ setting due to the car lot building in front of the house.

Note to self, even when picking a car up unseen it is probably best to walk around the whole thing and not ignore the side parked against the wall.

Nothing major but a bit more metal showing on the arch that I’d ideally like on my cars.

Other things to note, good and bad

+ Fish with oil changes every 10k.

- cold air doesn’t exist, air con is a flame thrower in this weather.

- Gearbox was lumpy to change, topped up atf to the tune of almost a litre ...

- It is bleeding quite a bit on the drive, atf oil cooler pipes perished quite a bit.

- Headlight levelling isn’t working on the xenons

- Front indicator held on with a random screw

+ Free SAAB bike rack included for the mountain bikes I don’t have

- Wipers blades older than my nan

- Chip in the windscreen

- Bit of a rumble through the wheel at 80ish

+ Free iPod tape deck thingy thrown in

+Sid displays mostly working.

- dimming passenger mirror dead so permanently bronze

+ bronze reflections make the world look way cooler

+It wasn’t as bad as the poor 9000 I saw on the way home.

Also, nobody asked me for a ticket for the entire train journey so could have saved £26 and freeloaded the trip if I were a scrote.

+It’s done 250 miles since purchase and not blown up.

+ wife hasn’t noticed the oil all over drive (yet)

Nice!

On my thread, someone (Talbot?) recommended a paving slab in the boot as a work around for the self-levelling headlamps.

According to YouTube dead pixels on SIDs are an easy fix, haven't got round to doing mine yet though.

I tend to agree with your general comments, the handling isn't the most nimble but they do really shift. I was surprised by the absence of torque steer though, they deal with the power surprisingly well.
