I like these, but alas, I may drive Peugeots but my plums/bank account aren't that big.

Can people temporarily stop driving thirsty V8s please? I want it to rain for about a month, you know, like a normal August

I assume we can look forward to another 14 pez stops on your way home?

Yes, all of the above statements are true. I got home (just... - more about that later), and I'm off to work now.

Details: its a 1999 4.6 HSE, with some nice features like the Harmon/Kardon speaker setup, the 18" alloys, and the cream cow skin seats - luckily the original owner was wise and specced a black leather steering wheel, the cream leather ones look bloody awful after 20+ years of use. Tested until November, and its the revised model with Bosch ECU and the 'Thor' version of the V8.

There are a couple of minor faults with it (its a P38, what do you expect?) - the air suspension works but is slow. I think the compressor needs a refresh, though it does go into all modes as it should. It may also be down to the fact the car has only done 3,000-ish miles in the last couple of years, and a bit of use wouldn't go amiss. The ABS light comes on at startup but goes out as soon as the car moves, and the SRS light pops on and off. The car was run for over half an hour at the sellers place, no issues. I set out onto the A38 and the V8 answered all calls for more speed easily and quickly, temperature gauge staying rock-steady at half way. I called for fuel at Trerulefoot near Liskeard and all was still well. Handling is a bit wayward (more so than it should be) so it may need new dampers, certainly a new steering damper. Everything went well until 2 miles from home (75 miles from Newton Abbot!) the temperature shot into the red. I pulled over at the nearest petrol station, popped the bonnet and found the header tank empty. Pouring fresh water in revealed one of the hoses to the thermostat 'tree' has a fairly big split. The PO did say he'd replaced a different hose on it a few weeks ago. I waited, let it cool down, and got it home although it was pretty hot again by the time it got there.

Oil is still a healthy golden brown colour (no Hellmanns present) so I'm reasonably sure its not done the head gaskets. I'm tempted to order a full set of hoses and just replace the lot - if two have gone in quick succession it may well be they are iffy - not really a surprise after nearly 20 years.

To be fair though I bought this knowing full well that i'd need to put some more cash into it, so there is a little bit set aside. More investigations tomorrow!

Sounds like the cooling system may need fresh hoses all round as you say, if 2 have gone, I'd warrant the rest aren't far behind. You simply don't see that many P38s about now

ABS lights on every commercial I've driven do that cycle when you start up, it's the system doing a self diagnostic

Whomever specced the interior did well.

Ps, my brother lives around them there parts. He's a prison warden at Channings wood and drives an Alfa Romeo brera.

Loved mine...... battery drain had me doing the jiggles if left for 4days or more - perfect* for airport parking on business trips. It was a real joy being in there and proper wattage was had...... even the ex liked it!

On mine - the slow rise turned out to be a leak on the rear bags which turned from, do it soon - to - sh*t, it's on it's arse and knackered in an instant - an online guide on replacing was a godsend and it turned out to be a 45min job.......

I will have another......... well played sir
