Luckilly its warm enough to have dried out of its own accord pretty much.

Think this one might be for ebay though regardless. After googling PASSAT B5 LEAK, Ive put myself right off this as a long termer.

Most of the leaks are easily fixed, even with little mechanical or DIY expertise. If the Aircon condensate isn't leaking over any electronics, I wouldn't worry too much. Condensate water is very pure and clean. It shouldn't smell either.

I believe the other areas that can leak have been dealt with recently? The heater matrix leaking apparently is more lack of coolant change corroding the insides out.

Either way, I much rather have niggly faults like this on a car rather than HGF/rot/gearbox issues/etc. A leaky condenser drain can be ignored. Engine that FTP can not be. Google any car and you'll find a list of faults on any car. Just some are more serious than others.

As the old clique goes, pick your battles wisely.

^ Whs. unless you’re running an early 90’s Jap motor, anything else is going to have niggles from time to time.

You seem to like your hündwagen; it’s clearly a really genuine, well-loved car - stick with it.

Man I do like an early 90s Japanese car mind.

Oh god, I wasn't hinting to sell it.  No no no no.

MOAR CARS!

Problem is that a lot of them are getting a bit crusty now. The special ones are rising in price too.

I don't think you'll find a more reliable, economical to run and plenty of parts available than this car. Certainly even harder to find one meeting those criteria in such good condition.

I remember reading about the scuttle leaks when I had a Skoda Superb, just an LWB version of the same car.

A wee bit of preventative maintenance does the trick and access really isn't difficult, I spent a morning doing it and I never had any issues in that respect.

Just to be argumentative: Any mk1 Toyota Yaris? Totally different car but beats all of those criteria pretty much hands down.

Im not against this car, its a very good car. Currently needs the air con drain pipe thing investigated/unclogged and could use a new passenger side wing mirror as doccumented. If anyone thats singing its praises would like to make an offer, Im all ears.

I would love it. However Mrs SiC say that only dirty old men drive Passat B5 and B5.5, along with Skoda Octavia MK1. One of the few cars I'm expressly banned from owning.

A Yaris MK1 is a great car buzzing around a city, but rubbish on the motorway. A Passat B5 is a great car for beating up and down a motorway, but unwieldy around a city. Own both and you'll conquer all!

I may resemble that assumption. Damn you Mrs SIC.

Or get a Mondeo Mk2, piss water in as standard. Add 20 years into the mix and you've got an idea of what it would be like if Ford made sieves.

If you don't use the A/C does it leak?

Correct. Took it out for a long hot run last night and Ive been using it today. With the Air Con off theres been no further leaks.

Less is the word you're looking for.

*Adds Mk2 Mondeos to the list of cars to swerve.*

I do love a mk3 mind.

And this children, is cyberbullying. If another child does this to you and refuses to stop, send them an Argos catalogue with insufficient postage paid. Its the only way theyll learn.

Mk3 not so bad in terms of the bodywork, but mechanically they have a few weak points more than the mk2.

I know all about the cyber, it's my day job, and these don't look like any exploits or threat actors I've ever seen!

Keep it, as others have said a water ingress issue is small beer really in the great scheme of things compared with electrical gremlins/rust/OMGHGF etc.

If it make you feel any better the Volvo 940 I bought a couple of months back had what I'd diagnosed as a slightly wet passenger footwell when I got it. Once it was back at Cassa Eunos I found things were far worse than I'd anticipated...

Pretty much had to strip all the carpets and seats to dry the lot out properly and get to stage zero. Bugger.

All is fine now with the car. The moral of the story is don't let a bit wata put you off.

Soldier on, keep the car, sort out the leak out and I shall reward you by donating a free MANN air filter I have left over from my Passat Highline  ;)

You enjoyed doing that though, didn't you.  Go on, admit it.

What you need is a trade with a lovely* Mercedes A Class auto...

Drill a hole at the lowest point. That's what I did, I've had several Fords where the seam sealer in the bulkhead had dried and split. Sealing it up would have involved the dash out so hence drilling a hole in the floor.
