nacho man Posted April 10, 2018 Author Posted April 10, 2018 What steering wheel would look good in this? It’s just too big for my lanky legs. Been bombing about in it all over the shop and its megatronx100000. It leaks like a sieve mind. The boot was soaking wet and the passenger side footwell too after the downpours. Need to get some window seals ordered ASAP. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Jim Bell and Datsuncog 2
nacho man Posted May 4, 2018 Author Posted May 4, 2018 Been using this old gal all week. It has had a new set of points the carb stripped and cleaned plus the timing was reset. Its now is basically a race car. Feels lovely and responsive. Before it used to feel quite laboured and unwilling to rev out but was still lively and felt good ish. I have had some ace drives, I took it out to Ashbourne from work one dinner to get some fish and chips and I gave it some, you get a good workout pushing on but it’s a good giggle. A new set of boots all round have transformed the handling so you can go around corners at more that 7mph, without massive four wheel drifts occurring and tyre squeal city happening. BUT!!!!!! I could do with some ideas on this little problem. Start from cold and it’s fine runs ace you can drive the whole time from cold to hot say a hour or so the temp will rise and fall but it still drives bob on. But as soon as you stop leave it a few mins com back and go again it will miss and run lumpy for a bit till it has got a bit of air through it? But say if you park up for a hour or two and it cools a bit and you get going again it will start fine and drive fine, I went to a site in Walsall yesterday and I was stuck in traffic for ages and it didn’t miss at all while stuck in traffic and it was hot as it had had a blast then sitting in traffic. Soon as the quick meeting was over and I set back it missed for five mins or so till the temp come down from cruising on the dual carriageway? What could it be???? I am thinking it must be heat related?? But I am probably way out like normal. Also question number two?? What fuel is best to run in these?? it had apparently upgraded Graham walker engine in the 90’s so will I still need to add a lead additive??? Thanking you Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk worldofceri, Jim Bell, Junkman and 3 others 6
Jim Bell Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 Fuck a duck dude. That thing looks mega. Just caught up. Envy. nacho man 1
AMC Rebel Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 My Dad's Granada used to do a similar trick - the mechanical fuel pump is high up on the timing case at the front (or it was on his). You could actually see the fuel level too low due to evaporation - it was fine with airflow, but trying to restart it on a hot day after it had been standing a bit was always a challenge. The AA man poured cold water on the pump once so my Pa did the same on the odd occasions it happened. If yours is still using the mechanical fuel pump maybe consider changing to electric? Looks a great motor BTW Jim Bell and nacho man 2

Aston Martin Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 E39 M5 or Scimitar Is something that has never been said. I do like this though. Jim Bell 1
Wack Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 I've always like scimitars , in Kettering where I grew up there was a scimitar garage near to a mates house , I used to stare through the window at them when I was 12-13 thinking I'd never be able to afford one of those, If I bought one now it'd probably be the fred flintstone special edition within a week of me owning it Just had a look, it's still there http://www.qrgservices.co.uk/qrg_welcomeTo.php Jim Bell 1
somewhatfoolish Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 If it got a uprated engine in the 90s it should be fine; the old man ran his on unleaded and nothing bad* happened other than the timing gear shedding its nylon bits into the sump. Surprisingly it didn't fuck any valves, just bent a few pushrods.
vaughant Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 Lovely cars those, always long the slot mags on them too. Always a quality car to me.
dozeydustman Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 These do suffer with vapour lock, especially with the original ford frying pan on top and mech fuel pump. When Beryl (my SE6) was new to me, she had a PiperX filter fitted. Better induction roar and less vapour lock but ran like a pig until I put the original ford one back on. I wrapped the exhaust fannymoulds with heatshield bandage and it improved things no end. oldcars 1
nacho man Posted October 22, 2018 Author Posted October 22, 2018 So this has gone into some nice heated storage for the winter. Haven’t got room to store it at home, it’s an extra cost really but didn’t want it outside all winter. Luckily the storage is like 30secs from work so I can still get to it really easy. It’s still running crap when hot, then turned on and off, new fuel pump, new leads, moved the coil away from the manifold. Ghosty Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 See if a wooden Nardi steering wheel would go in. It'd suit perfectly.
dozeydustman Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 I had a 13" Mountney wood-rim on my 6a, which I transferred to the 6 when I scrapped it. Was very heavy without PAS until I put the rack & pump from my 6a into the 6. Grease the trunnions at least once a month, even if you laying up for winter. They sieze in under a year if you don't and are complete wankers to get off the kingpin when they're jammed.
nacho man Posted November 21, 2018 Author Posted November 21, 2018 Think I am gonna put this on EBay. The usual can’t stop thinking about buying something else has set in. I tried to bash it off but it keeps coming back into my noggin. Going to put it in for a mot and get a slight exhaust leak sorted and get a professional to sort the hot running issue sorted before selling so it’s properly sorted. If anyone Is interested send me a pm I will want strong money for it as I paid strong money. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk somewhatfoolish, oldcars and Skizzer 3
somewhatfoolish Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 Sheckshy beasht. I'm all nostalgic, reliving the first time I got three figures on the clock was a drive of the old man's SE6, albeit as a Smiths clock prone to doing windscreen wiper impressions the veracity may be questionable. C'est combien?
Crooner Posted November 23, 2018 Posted November 23, 2018 Had a few Sims. They are good tubs, but I've never been in one yet thatA:- Has an effective heaterB:- Doesn't leak in like a sieveC:- Doesn't make you smell like you've used either one of its exhaust pipes as a hairdryer.I like 'em. Wife hates 'em. Joey spud 1
